Umm, I believe we were joking about the BrokeBack stuff, or at least I hope the other guy was too. Others may have different views but due to my own personal opinions I would only simply be dissapointed if there were gay characters introduced into the ST. That's just me and my belief. But me and hopefully others like me would not complain, walk out, or demand money back. At the very most, I would simply roll my eyes and chuckle, but move on and enjoy the rest of the movie. The only thing that would really probably make me walk out is if the plot sucked or if ep 7 turned out to be no better than Revenge of the Sith, which was slaughtered.

If we find out that EpisodeVII and VIII are setups and that everyone is dead. Then, I think J. J. is going to be on many a fanboy's death list. ;)

I've been watching Game of Thrones and if Charles Dance doesn't show up somewhere in the film I'll storm out. Okay, not really but he would be fantastic!

Do you mean like they did with "Lost?" Yeah, I would pretty much bail on the whole Star Wars franchise if the whole thing was a dream sequence, or if everyone was dead.

    yeah, gay people are hilarious.

while i'm a huge proponent of including more LGBT characters in pop culture, other than main ships like han/leia and anakin/padme, star wars is a universe where sexuality has mostly taken a backseat. LGBT characters would likely feel shoehorned. characters such as obi-wan, palpatine, yoda, qui-gon, mace windu, and dozens of others have never given any inclination as to their sexuality, and i don't know why the series would start now.

Homosexuals will make you disappointed in a franchise known for incest?

Han, Luke, Leia, Anakin and Padme all express their heterosexuality in the previous six movies. I'm not saying a LGBT character should be forced into the movies for the sake of equality. But if a same sex couple share an on screen kiss like the aforementioned characters have done in the past I'm not sure how it would remove from the movie in any way or form.

    Chewgumma , exactly.

I'm not sure why some people assume that "gay character" means "hard core same-sex porn." Gay people aren't having sex all the time any more than we straight people are. They go to work, eat, sleep, poop, do laundry, and fly star fighters just like the rest of us.

Did anyone see the Leonardo DiCaprio movie "J. Edgar"? It was blatantly obvious who J. Edgar's partner was but I don't think they even kissed in the film.

I can see how that could happen:
JJ Abrams and the members of One Direction are at some venue. He feels thirsty so he walks to the only soda machine around only to find out that one of the members of that boy band has just taken out the last Pepsi can. So what does he do? he offers them a cameo in Episode VII in exchange for that last Pepsi!

First of all, what I said is that I would sit back and enjoy the rest of the movie anyway. Dissapointment is just a feeling of one aspect, and nobody said anything about one aspect instigating frustration at the whole franchise. Not every single scene is gonna satisfy everybody.

And the start of the conversation was about gay characters. But if you really want to get into the incest of it, we can. I did indeed think the Luke/Leia thing, upon the later revelation that they were siblings, was...well....not cool. But I shrugged it off and even found it funny when Robot Chicken briefly parodized it. Besides, although this doesn't take away the strange part, the two didn't even know for sure that they were related until ROTJ. Also, Tolkien's Middle Earth universe which is almost as popular as SW, believe it or not I think had a story of an incestuous relationship in the Silmarillion. But eventually the two wedded clueless characters found out that they were siblings and that was the end of it. But I still love all of Tolkiens other stories anyway.

Oh, and as for anakinfan, nobody jumped to any conclusions or suggested anything about same-sex porn. I made a joke, I then stated my case, and that was it. It's just an opinion of mine and I stand by it.

Perhaps I just don't understand why anybody would be disappointed at all about the portrayal of another lifestyle in a work of fiction. [face_dunno]We live in a diverse society with everyone having a different viewpoint of the world and way of experiencing life. Whenever a film has an aspect grounded in religion I don't get particularly disappointed because it's an opportunity to experience the views and the lifestyle of someone other than me. Especially if the material is handled exceptionally well. That's not something to be disappointed in, that's an experience to value and treasure. Such is the power of fiction.

Of course! It's never a bad thing to get educated and fairly and inquisitively trying to learn other lifestyles. That's a fact of life and I agree with you there. What I stated is a personal opinion, one that I probably shouldn't have mentioned on this forum if I had known how much animosity there would be towards it. I have absolutely zero bad feelings towards gays themselves, even when they express themselves in fiction. I just have certain beliefs and values, that's all. If people paint me and others as ignorant, intolerant, and stupid for fairly expressing a different viewpoint about content in fiction and/or film, then we really are headed into a postmodern society where everything goes and it becomes criminal to express a different opinion on another lifestyle established in film, fiction, or reality.

You have not been banned. Nor have you been prosecuted. To label your set of beliefs ignorant is to share the same freedom of speech you are using to express them. So please don't pull the "I'm being prosecuted against for my beliefs" card, it just doesn't wash.

I'm pretty sure that if anyone said they don't want to see the ST as another "The Bodyguard" because they don't think people of two different races should mix, and then tried to claim that it was either "a joke" or that they were "just expressing their beliefs and values," it would go over like a ton of duracrete.

But Google "Loving vs Virginia" and see just how recently such beliefs were codified into law.

if R2 said "I have a bad feeling about this" subtitled on screen

i'd leave the cinema, to grab popcorn (even though i don't eat it)

None of that parallel universe time-travel stuff....oh, and I also heard that JJ's latest "Into Darkness" wasn't good either, at least plot-wise. In fact, I had a bad feeling about it in the first place so I cheated and looked up the full plot online. My suspicions were confirmed. I was like.....ugh....really? That was it?

I'll just say this. If Ziro the Hutt couldn't get me to walk out of Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie, then I doubt there is anything that will make me do the same in the ST.

Though I was tempted, oh how I was tempted.
