While watching The Empire Strikes Back on BluRay, I noticed a ship flying with the rebel fleet near the end of the movie that I never noticed. As far as I know, this ship is in none of the books. It looks small--Millennium Falcon sized maybe-- and has a side-by-side, twin "B-wing-ish" cockpit configuration in the front and a long trailing fuselage in the rear. Has anyone else noticed this ship and is there anything to know about it? Does it have a name, what is its purpose, etc.?

I know what he's talking about; there's a number of ships from the Rebel Fleet in TESB that have never been given names.

I'm assuming you mean the twin-"pod" bottom-right of the Rebel Frigate?

I know I'm dragging this thread from out of nowhere... But. yeah, there are a bunch of ships in that shot that are never seen again. One looks like a warped version of the Blockade Runner, one kind of looks like a Z-95 Headhunter, and some of the other ones look like prototypes of Rebel ships that showed up in RotJ.

Very cool, I never noticed them before.

I don't know what it is, but they and the Cloud Cars both seem influenced by the F-82 Twin Mustang:

Well whaddya know. Looks like a pod racer. Or a Y-wing sans cockpit.

I'd say that's exactly what they were. Need a random starship to fill in the background? Grab a rejected drawing or butcher an existing ship.

My posts from a year ago are getting entirely too much attention. :p

Very likely, yes. Still, it's cool to find new things in a movie you've seen roughly a hundred times.

    A lil more info:

    According to THIS

The background Rebel fleet ships from the end of Empire have long been a mystery to fans. Turns out, most don't exist as models and were actually airbrushed artwork mounted on glass.

Since it has no official ID, in my personal EU I'm going to call that the ship the Lamh class transport ship that carries all the spare prosthetic hands.

Interesting, because the one we've been talking about here definitely does seem to be a model - it looks like it was kitbashed from escape pods.

I can buy that. They do look a little flat compared to the brilliance of the Nebulon-B.

Man, the OT has such cool ships. The Empire and the Rebels ships are both really visually intriguing in completely different ways.

Sometimes I wish there were things we didn't name. Just so we could sit around and wonder what they are.

I might be seeing things, but to me the ship directly below the Rebel Transport looks like a Nemoidian shuttle????

Maybe it's a stretch, but that first ship reminds me of Neva Kee's podracer.

So it does, do you think the Nemoidians joined the Alliance after the brutal murder of Nute Gunray at the hands of Vader?? (I know the Alliance wasn't formed back then but you never know!!)

I'd think the Rebels would have more political acumen than openly inviting guys that are probably even more universally hated than the Empire is into the Rebellion fold. It'd be propaganda 101 for the Empire to just directly equate them with the Confederacy if they did.
