With the recent post wars between people about this topic, I will ask a straightforward question to find out what people prefer on these forums- the PT or the OT?

The saga for me. I refuse to vote since there isn't an option for the saga. ;)

OT. I love the whole saga, but the OT ranks 3 spots in my Top 5 all time favorite movies. ROTS is somewhere #25-50, TPM & AOTC somewhere 50-100.

My favorite trilogy would be AOTC, ROTS, and ANH.

Allow me to continue the sentiment: the saga.

Not that there’s anything wrong with favoring one over the other; I get it–how preferences vary from the simpler, wider accessibility of the OT to the denser, more esoteric boldness of the PT. But for me, the way the two sets complement one another, both for their similarities and differences, is so all-encompassing that I just embrace it as one big orgy fest: CGI gettin' it on with puppets, senate scenes going down on stolen battle station plans, couples swinging between Han & Leia and Anakin & Padme, a three-way between midichlorians, TIE-fighters and protocol droid memory wipes, Qui-Gon’s 70s, porn star facial hair…

…and a completely random, nonsensical framed picture of George Lucas at Hooters:

The only one of the OT I truly love is ROTJ. While I find myself watching the entire PT over and over. Idunno probably just sentimental, TPM is what made me fall in love with SW when I was 9.

I dig both. But just like you gotta draw the line between bein' an Elvis man or a Beatle's man, I gotta say the PT, man.

This thread has somewhat restored my faith in this forum. While the original topic begs for division amongst fans, it seems many have come to appreciate the series as a whole and not discriminate.

We all have our preferences, and numbers won't turn opinions into facts. Just enjoy the series for what it is.

    Hear, hear.

For me - OT definitely, but it's a preference, not a black & white ideological stance.

I will say that I wonder why "Both" wasn't one of the choices, as it seems to be the more popular option, if it were available.

This is why I'm happy the ST is being made, because in a sense it will put all of this PT vs OT nonsense to waste. In 5-6 years, we will have 3 Trilogies and there will be no specific story now as the whole 'Tragedy of Darth Vader' is out the window, along with the SE updates that had to be made to make the PT and OT co-exist.

As I said in another thread, the Saga (9 movies) is now whatever you want it to be as it is more a macro story about a Galaxy, Far, Far Away spanning 3 generations of Skywalkers. If you want to watch the story of Darth Vader you can enjoy 1-6, if you want to watch the story of Luke Skywalker you can enjoy 4-9, if you are interested in the Skywalker Grandchildren you can watch 7-9, if you want to go old school and watch the OOT (hopefully Disney can put out a BluRay version in the future), then you can watch 4-6, and if you want to go REAL old school and just watch that standalone movie with a beginning, middle and ending, you can watch Star Wars from 1977.

If Disney could put out a 12 disc set of the OOT + PT + OT/SE + ST in 2022, then I think this will end the argument of what trilogy is better, etc. We have 3 more SW movies coming out starting 2015, do you guys just want to argue for the next 6 years about whose opinion is better, or we can all just sit back and enjoy the ride...... :)

I'll throw in another vote for the Saga.

If forced to choose, though, I'd go with the PT.

I can't be forced to choose, so I won't. Star Wars is one.

    - We should not have made this bargain.
    - This bickering is pointless!

    I voted OT.

Although, I have to say, I'm a bit surprised by the amount of people sticking behind the "Saga" option. Surely, you must have a preference as to which one you like better - or rather, prefer to watch more often (they are so stylistically different for me, it's hard not to compare them and ultimately choose - that isn't necessarily a bad thing ). There's no right or wrong answer, of course. This is all purely subjective. Voting for one doesn't automatically mean you hate the other or that the other isn't any good. I don't exactly care for the PT personally, but there are still portions of it that I quite enjoy and I continue to watch it for those reasons, maybe not as often as the OT, but you catch my drift.

Even if I sat here typing for the next 6 hours, I dont think I could even list the number of things wrong with the PT. So here is the corresponding list of the things I like about it:
    • The John Williams Score
I don't really blame George Lucas; he was given carte blanche to make the PT in completely his own way, with 100% creative influence. His script, his characters, his love of CGI, etc etc. It is a series of films made by an amateur billionaire. The OT is great, and obviously the work he did there was excellent, but remember he had other professionals there who as a team made the films what they were. If George Lucas had it his own way, Luke Skywalker would have been a frog-creature. But Lucas didn't have the money, and the people that did told him "No if you want the audience to care for the MAIN CHARACTER he probably should be a human...". OT was a great success and fast forward to the 90s and George Lucas has taken so much credit for the Star Wars franchise, he is just given a huge check to do what he wants with, surrounds himself by yes-men and makes the film that is in his head, totally naive to the rules of scrip-writing. The only thing that he didn't have total control over was the music (sure he could be like "I want it more like this dum dum dum dummm" or something, but John Williams is John Williams and I don't think there was much GL could have done about that), which is why it makes it onto the list of things I like.

PT. The flaws that are in the OT being so constantly swept under the carpet and overlooked by apologists has made those flaws infinitely worse during repeated viewings. All 6 are a mess at certain points. Any film which has an actor refer to a character by the name of the actress playing her... and it's kept in the film... is not beyond reproach.
