And we'd have a lot more to discuss about the Ben/Tahiri scene.

Dear god no. She's terrible with plot and characters and action. We don't need complete idiotic/lunatic characters. We get enough of that from Troy Denning as is.

David Weber, for superb space battle scenes and character development
Charlene Newcomb, for more Alex Winger
Katherine Allred, to explore the more intricate details of planets and species
Michael Crichton, for thrillers (if he was still alive)
    Eric Nylund, for awesome plots
Chris Avellone, for more superb games and maybe a novel called The Exile
Anne Bishop, for actual romance seeing as how none of the current post-ROTJ authors can do that
William C. Deitz, for another Kyle Katarn novel

Hm, well, then we have different tastes, because I like her action scenes and characterization. Plot ... not so much.

Mike is the EU guy--I'd take him over Jerry if it was either/or.

Paul Danner deserves a full novel, and this doesn't even take into account anything besides his two contributions to Tales from the New Republic.

I'd like to read a political Star Wars novel. I don't really like reading action, and the last one I enjoyed was Plagueis.

Considering how much he hates Star Wars, what about David Brin? It would have to be a post-RotJ novel where the hated oppressive Jedi sect retreats to Dagobah or wherever to allow the people of the galaxy to build an egalitarian society. [face_rofl]

And I would really like to see L. Neil Smith return. This time with a full-on no-holds-barred political tract in the manner of his North American Confederacy series. Luke would convince the Senate to adopt an anarchic system, and the bad guys would be the big government subversives (after the sad pathetic Sithoids of the Legacy era, that would admittedly be a breath of fresh air).

I quite like Jerry's style of writing. Not sure if he ever wrote a longer piece of fiction, but I would definitely like to see him try a SW short story.

Or you know... a SW comic. Aren't the PA books published by Dark Horse, too? Star Wars - Penny Arcade edition. Now that's a comic book I'd really look forward to. Randy, you listening?

Brent Weeks, with Brandon Sanderson a close second. Though Brandon could probably write a decent SW novel in about 25 minutes the speed he writes books, whereas I want to finish reading Brent's Lightbringer series before he starts anything new :p

I'm afraid I've not yet read America Gods, but his other stuff is pretty good. Stardust and Anasazi Boys are not bad. But his Sandman comic series is probably his magnum opus. His strength has always been dialogue and uh... decidedly peculiar fantasy. The EU could use more of that. Just not from Vonda McIntyre.

He also does an excellent job writing alien characters and concepts without them feeling shallow or too ungrounded to understand or relate to. After reading Camouflage, I'm very interested to see what he could bring to the Star Wars table.

See, I love Gaiman, but I'm not sure his "decidedly peculiar fantasy" would mesh well with Star Wars.

Although, if anyone has to flesh out "the Ones", I want it to be him.... [face_thinking]

His Wikipedia article tells me that he's only ever expanded beyond short fiction once, but I'd love to see more short stories from M. Shayne Bell. Drawing the Maps of Peace was one of Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina's best, and I've always been a fan of Zuckuss and 4-LOM's story from Bounty Hunters as well. Insider is doing short stories again; come on, LFL, dig out your old address book from 1995!

    My choices.

Tom Clany or Anne Rice. Maybe even Stephen King.

John Scalzi. THAT would be awesome. Gaiman would be a great fit as well. King is one of my favs, but I don't know if he would do the genre justice, unless they let him run with it, cannon be dammed.

I guess that wouldn't surprise me. I also don't think it would ever happen either way. But it would still be awesome. Perhaps a Redshirts version of Star Wars. What would the title for that be? Rebel Pilots? Or maybe Star Destroyer Captains? :p

What are you basing hatred of on, BTW? Do have a quote to reference?

    Young Jedi Knights characters.

    Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh snap!

Wait, wait, let me do a more modern one:

Luke's ex-girlfriends. Oh! Oh! He went there. He went there.

OK, OK, I have one more:

The integrity of each new novel! Get it? Because they suck!
