No clue. Apart from the Dark Halloween Trilogy and (peripherally) Planetary, I've only got a general pop culture awareness of DC.

This is just my segue into suggesting reading Planetary, which is fantastic. It also has one of the best Batman stories ever written.

Just an alternative earth for storytelling, since the DC retcon apparently was not enough mucking around.

My comic awareness for DC is pretty much limited to the DCAU. Marvel it is the Untimate universe and Marvel Movie canon.

Hi all. I found this today and thought some of you might find it interesting given how long it took some of the EU publishers to get e-editions for these books. I only read on my Kindle these days so I'm glad they got some of this hashed out.

Planetary is fantastic! End of - easily one of Ellis' best works, perhaps his best.

I know that conventionally Transmetropolitian is considered his best, but Planetary will always be my personal favorite of his works.

Freakangels is well worth seeking out in trade or reading online free. One of the few cases of him following through on a project.

The only Ellis work I've gotten around to reading as of yet is Extremis. I'm a bad person.

Same -- although it annoys me to have to re-buy books I have in print. I got the X-wing 9 book bundle a while back, and that thing has a HEFTY price tag. I figure I'll reread those many times over the years, but man is it frustrating.

I rebought Harry Potter. I actually have three editions of those--American hardbacks, British paperbacks and hardbacks, and now the Kindle set. Otherwise I just picked up where I left off when I got my Kindle instead of rebuying.

On the plus side, there are quite a few Star Wars books not really worth spending the money on again. And as far as dead tree editions go, I'd love Star Wars to go the Omnibus route and release books for some of the more popular trilogies/series. A Thrawn Trilogy omnibus with a bunch of the zahn short stories would be nice. A Hand of Thrawn Omnibus with added bonus of say the previously unreleased Re-enlistment of Baron Fel short story version. An Omnibus of the Tales of the Empire/New Republic and some of the missing stories from the old Adventure Journal/Gamer mag/Insider.

Hey Jello, it's working on my iPad. Someone just posted in my feed that it's working on mobile apps but not desktops.

Haven't you heard? I'm new to internet.

Also, Man of Steel's Krypton = what Thor's Asgard should've looked like.

I joked about that when I first saw it. Krypton = Asgard + Matrix + Pandora

The opening Kypton scene was kind of sullied for me because in my opinion about 80% of it was completely unnecessary, especially because almost all the information conveyed in it is repeated by hologram Russell Crowe later. Speaking of hologram Crowe, I can practically see him demanding more screen time behind the scenes.

Man of Steel is one of those movies that I really enjoy, and will likely see it again at some point (I can't tell you how much my inner child enjoyed that final fight scene; it was like watching a live action Dragon Ball Z fight, and Dragon Ball Z was the best thing ever as far as my childhood self was concerned) but also can't help but criticize it to tiny pieces. Then again, I always try to enjoy a movie for what it is while also thinking of what could have been done better (I've found the two can actually be done simultaneously, contrary to much of the internet's protests).

I would rather have seen an entire movie of just the Krypton part. For me, everything between Krypton and
    "On a farm??"
was expendable. Though I did like it a lot overall.

The two big problems for me were that the pacing was all over the place, and the love story was the absolute definition of forced (plus them kissing on what's essentially the mass grave of thousands of people adds a distinct creepiness factor to it). Plus it would have been nice to see Superman save some individual people during the disaster porn segment, as a big theme of the character over the years is that he cares for humans on an individual level, that he doesn't view them as a statistic. I didn't mind the idea of Superman killing Zod, either, though I do believe that could have been handled better, and with the right build up, potentially have been a very powerful moment; have Superman try to lead Zod somewhere else to show, beyond a shadow of doubt, that Zod is more interested in slaughtering humans than he is in chasing down Superman. Better convey Superman's aversion to killing earlier in the film. Have Superman take hits during the fight that he could have otherwise avoided to save just a few people. Smaller touches like that would have really gone a long way.

But yeah, I am definitely in the "liked it" camp.

Dude, the visual design of Asgard was the best part of Thor. It was like Art Deco PT Coruscant rebuilt as a LOTR set.
