Gulacy is not the best artist, but his people are far better looking than say Scott Hepburn.

    Would you rather:

Rob Liefield should do a Star Wars comic.

Given how many guns Kyle Katarn carries, he would actually have a use for tons of pouches...

Well, in Star Wars we have the advantage of calling all of his creations "near-humans" :p

At least nobody pretends Hepburn's work is great, and he's at least drawing deliberately stylized characters.

Gulacy is attempting to draw well, and failing miserably.

    Take this:

Gulacy completely fails perspective and proportion. His characters' legs taper away for a sense of perspective, except wait, none of the rest of their bodies are in perspective (look at the guy on the left, whose coat bottom stays in proportion with his chest and tapers out until all of a sudden, boom, tiny tapered legs poking out of the bottom). They also completely fail to exist in any kind of logical relationship with the surface that is theoretically the floor.

Gulacy has never been able to figure out something as basic as how to draw two eyes that point in the same direction.

Absolutely nothing about the perspective or proportion of that architecture is right.

Look at this thing. Jaina's legs don't line up. The top of Anakin's head is off-center. Jacen's face is shaped like a D. Jaina's left arm is half-size. I think Anakin is supposed to be hanging off the bar and leaning back, but his head is floating detached from his body if so. It's just awful.

Paul Gulacy has been drawing professionally for forty years, and he still regularly makes basic errors in technique that would embarrass an amateur. There is no excuse.

ugh, Xandel Carivus. I hate hate hate that dork. Admittedly his Imperial seal pin is pretty neat, rather Roman looking, but ugh -- usurper traitorface. Yes, that is the formal term for it.

His Guards are at least pretty fancy looking.

What, really? They look like bugs. :p

Next to the Imperial Guard, too, they look positively plain.

I think Imperial Guard are pretty plain as well. Still, there is elegance in simplicity.

Just like the look, don't ask me why, just look like really fancy Stormtroopers. :)

Whilst I never really liked the Royal Guard look, especially the Force Pikes just seem odd.

    Sooo.. the issue...

More continuity headaches- Luke returns to Tatooine/farm for the first time for the 3rd time (at least) , though that can be fudged somewhat with the way things are phrased and depicted (it may be implied that he came there to bury them but we can just read it as him placing a trinket on the graves).

Luke claims no one knows that he's the pilot who destroyed the Death Star  , which makes it kinda impossible to move the series to 6 months ABY (which would have solved all the pre-existing continutiy errors with the Executor, Yavin evac references and TIE Interceptor presence- and slightly eased the DS2 concerns).

Yet he always talks about "always" wanting to try flying a TIE Interceptor- which, if this is a 2 months ABY setting where Interceptors should be rare and/or just beyond prototypes, seems a very strange thing to say about something that just came into existence. Yet, it wouldn't have seemed as weird a few months later, once again supporting a later setting.

As for the broader content, it looks like there was an artist change. 3PO looks much better, Luke looks more stylized. Story is happening in spurts still (but there are no more of the 1-2 panel "cutaways" that caused confusion in the earlier arc, like that Slave I/Mon Mothma bit, which is a welcome fix). Characterization feels true.

-Han and Chewie's (somewhat clever) attempt to get off the planet is interupted by Fett and Bossk.
-After visiting the Lars homestead, Luke initiates a plan to get him and Wedge captured aboard Bircher's ISD so that they can slice out who the mole is from his end. One of the other stealth pirates mag onto the ISD's belly to assist in their escape.
-Losing sleep over that matter, Leia decides to go somewhere in her fighter without filing a flightplan, having 3PO scrub the data records so that no one, not even Mon Mothma, knows about it.
-After the Emperor talks down our new Moff, she goes back to her quarters and is about to commit suicide before Vader contacts her via the Force. By issues end she is aboard Bircher's ISD as a Lt.

Also, the issue has no title. [face_dunno]

I just took a look, and it seems quite a few recent Dark Horse SW singles lack titles. [face_dunno]

I kinda didn't like the art as much here. The ships all look great, and yeah, so does Threepio. But the characters seem a bit off, especially Palpatine. I guess I'm not a fan of this type of stylization. Though, I was pleased to see that Dan Parsons (the inker for much of Legacy) was the inker here. :)

Still, it was a pretty good issue, continuity issues aside. But they said starting off that continuity with prior canon wasn't their highest priority here, so it's not too surprising. And really, I don't blame Wood, considering how much of a cluster-**** 0-1 ABY is already.

What do you mean, re: titles? Almost everything in the last couple years has been part of a miniseries (whose single issues wouldn't have unique titles) or a one-shot (with a subtitle, like Purge: Tyrant's Fist). We haven't had an ongoing since Legacy and KOTOR ended, whose nature as an ongoing opens up the possibility for a single issue to have it's own title, etc.

The Interceptor thing isn't too much of a problem, I should think -- remember that Bircher's flying an advanced model with shields and hyperdrives. This is probably a predecessor to the standard, cheaper variety of Interceptor.

Still doesn't top the last panel of #3 though!

Anyway, good issue. I liked seeing the Emperor put that corporate flunky in her place. Seeing Leia in moisture farmer duds was kind of cool too.

I mean within the last few months, printed within the individual issues. For instance, issues 1-4 of Star Wood have "In the Shadow of Yavin part x", but so far 5-7 lack any sort of identifier. And then all issues of Legacy 2.0 besides the first one lack a title of any sort, not even something saying "part x", except down in the smaller print containing copyright and legal info.

Trust me, I've been following DH's SW line for a while now. ;)

And AdmiralNick22 yes there are. Gimme a minute and I'll post 'em.

    EDIT: And here they are.

Below the Redemption, is that... is that the Galactica?

That could be, but the series so far has made the Interceptor seem oddly commonplace, going by people's reaction to/awareness of/long-time desire to fly them. It's not necessarily an outright continuity problem, but it would certainly fit more comfortably a few months down the line.

A more expensive model with shields and a hyperdrive, later replaced by the cheaper stripped down TIE Interceptor? You mean a TIE Avenger?

Points for Galleons and Escort carriers, but again, the anachronistic Fleet elements are causing continuity headaches all over the place.
