    I'd be using Internet Explorer 11, except I can't install the Windows 8.1 preview until the end of the month for software compatibility reasons *grumble grumble*.

    Was Firefox a couple years back until the release of Chrome. Then I jumped ship to Chrome because Firefox kept crashing on me and Chrome was faster. Continued to use Chrome up until last week, when it started to continuously and inexplicably crash on me. Now I'm using the new Firefox, which while still not apparently as fast as Chrome, hasn't crashed at all so far.


    Having not used IE since high school, why does everyone hate it so much? I'd thought that MS would have made it into a Firefox imitation by now...

    People hate IE because after IE6 won the browser wars, MS stopped updating it so it became an outdated dinosaur. Even before that, IE insisted on using its own coding format that people had to account for and consistently opposed web standards. IE6 was also subject to massive security leaks, and the slow development cycles meant that security problems -- despite frequent patching -- would stay around. IE7 finally introduced tabs years after Opera and Firefox had been using them, and IE updates had been relatively slow -- IE8 was the first reasonably standards complaint IE, IE9 was the first to pass the acid3 test IIRC but actually was the fastest browser around for a little while and was tied with Chrome for the most secure browser. IE10's really good, but the problem still is that IE doesn't really do incremental updates -- so while each generation of IE is usually released as the best in class, it's outmoded fairly quickly. That said, IE was the first to get graphics accelerated HTML5 at a decent level of performance and is still the best in class in that area, so it's better for in-browser app development and things like that.

    IE is still a lot less customizable than FF and is slower than Chrome, but it has less of a memory footprint than FF and it's been a multithreaded program for a while now. I'd say that while Chrome is probably the best browser all around, IE is definitely the second best now but continues to be hampered by its lousy older versions.

    It amazes me to see people still using Internet Explorer. I jump over to it from time to time and it is so slow, in addition to the lack of options for blocking ads. Of course the people using it are the same ones who have about six toolbars at the top of the screen because they don't know how to customize a thing.
