Dorling Kindersley made them. None of the books have an in-universe author, just a DK one. They expanded the universe more so than most other expanded universe fact books when it comes to technical and cultural aspects of selected vehicles and worlds.

 

And yet they are still clearly written in a biased manner which is all kinds of odd if you think about it. Stuff like the TIE fighter manual by David West Reynolds is also biased (outright hilariously so in fact) but is fully meant to. Whilst the ICSs are really meant to just be simply fact guides but still have the heavy biased undertones.

 

The new Clone Wars Incredible Vehicles book, by Jason Fry among others- seems like ICS without the biases to me.

Maybe that might be a more helpful source?

 

On the subject of droid fighters - I know it seems contradictory at first, but I think it can work: their reflexes are a lot better than living pilots, which makes them a challenge, but they are also uncreative and have trouble adapting to unforeseen circumstances, which can be exploited.

Reminds me of the old combat flight simulator games - actually, video games in general actually. High difficulty ai are really good at working within the system, but they are still considered to be boring foes by top players because of their predictability.

 

It was pretty good from memory, it didn't go one way or another, though I would obviously prefer the viewpoint of ICS.

If only there could be a retcon that would redefine the number of Star Destroyers, Dreadnoughts, the number of Clone Troopers, the population of Coruscant, etc.. as very vague "a lot"

 

If you're looking for a more holistic approach, absolutely. EGTW as well. Backhanded compliments aside, Jason and McEwok did a fantastic job.

I'd rather have definitive official answers.

 

I'd hate to live in a world where a fact book that hints at a galactic economy and warfare in realistic terms as being "biased". Also, lol @ TCW:IV being considered "unbiased". The one see-though diagram of the Malevolence's reactor equipment should have been enough to blow some poster's gaskets back in the day.

I wouldn't. If those are the choices, I'd rather support the "It doesn't matter, it's science fantasy!"-lot and keep everything vague.

 

I find it very hard to believe that you didn't try for specific numbers in your feedback for EGTW.
If you're trying to say that you prefer no answer if you can't get the answer you want, I don't know what to tell you.

 

What about those Star Destroyers, huh? They're pretty big.

 

I red somewhere that the big one Darth Vadar was on was a big as 5 of those other ones.

Devastator with an Interdictor, two Star Galleons and two escort carriers.
A new type of shuttle, similar to old Millennium Falcon concept art.
A new type of Golan battle station, a sub-orbital type.
A nice shot of the Home One, with a Liberty-type cruiser in front.
A new docking bay on the HO, with a vertical take-off and landing gate.

Oh, I remembered a new Shifalan design from the latest Legacy issue. The patrol ship. Quite different from the usual Imperial/Mon Calamari look.

 

Those small winged things by Home One appear to be Nova couriers, IIRC. I think we saw them in TFUIi among the Rebel fleet.

The vertical docking bays seem like they are a better design for converting civilian ships- they look to be much smaller so don't cut into the structure of the hull as much, and they can get away with less in the way of say tractor beam assistance for take off and landing, as with the ships artificial gravity, pilots can just use repulsors and treat it like a planetary launch/landing.


Maybe we can retcon that shuttle to be what Luke flies several times in Marvel. Either way, it looks to be a YZ-775

Very true, I guess I tuned out a bit on that cross section book since it didn't have the amount of the technical and nice historical/political tidbits that the other ICS's had

That's a silly comment. FYI, you'll get no respect on this thread unless you ask if the Enterprise can beat a Star Destroyer.

 

Enterprise-Z from the 60th century probably can.

 

I grew up on the late, great Gerry Anderson's stuff. I'm going to shatter everybody's fantasy and say that Fireball XL5 can curbstomp a Star Destroyer.

 

Please, nothing can withstand the mighty thundering power of the USS Enterprise, CV-6.
