Yeah but that's even more of a headache since we have the sources you allude to that have the Avenger as the predecessor of the Interceptor, but then we see them not being deployed until after Hoth either...

    Todd the Jedi

Bless you my friend! Awesome shots. Nice to see a mix of standard Rebel designs, especially the classics like the EF-76 escort frigates, CR90 corvettes, medium transports, and of course my beloved Mon Cal cruisers.

They already had prototype Interceptors on the first Death Star so it really should not be that much of a problem. Though yeah otherwise the issue goes out of it's way to mess with the timeline [face_sigh] .

Hm, honestly not sure I'll keep reading this series. Heck, if the first arc hadn't been titled "Shadows of Yavin", this would all seem more like one long continuous series, since Han is still trying to get off Coruscant. A random visit to the Lars farmstead was ok, even if the assertion that Luke is a "nobody" seems odd, as I thought in a previous issue Vader was already thinking about Skywalker, but the hunt for Luke probably hasn't become that prominent yet.

Different artist hasn't helped either. Threepio looks fine, but everyone else looks a bit off. And just Threepio isn't the spy somehow or other, since they've been going on about a security leak for the entire series with not much clues as to who it could be or who would even have access.

It seems that Star Wars authors just never remember what the proper style of address is. If the job had been done right from the beginning, it should be "Your Majesty." However, Return of the Jedi first introduced "Your Highness." When trying to write a "style of office" section for the Galactic Emperor article on the Wook, I was forced to come up with this:

    Thanks for that.

It doesn't have to be as obnoxious as His Most Excellent Imperial Master Overlord Grand Eminence Palpatine or whatever, but "my lord," "my Emperor," and even "my lord Emperor" have the distinction of being simultaneously clumsy and making the station sound rather pedestrian.

They also do it with the titles of Chancellor and Chief/Head of State in other books. It's jarringly bad.

Every attested usage isn't necessarily valid though -- a lot of people get it wrong. The most formal sources, as noted, use "Your[His] Imperial Majesty" or "Your[His] Majesty" -- those are the only correct styles.

This was a filler. I hope things will get moving as soon as Luke is captured.

Well, we cannot judge what is valid or not in-universe if we aren't explicitely told. Clearly, "Your (Imperial) Majesty" is indeed the best title we have, but Palpatine never objects to any of the other forms of address that are used in his presence.

Most Star Wars writers being American and thus not accustomed to royalty, there have been many goofs as regards proper titles and forms of address. In TPM, everyone addresses Queen Amidala as "Your Highness," which is a princely title. Everyone except Palpatine/Ian McDiarmid, who is an Englishman and knows better: he calls her "Your Majesty."

I suppose that Wilek Nereus knows enough protocol to use proper titles in his messages. What I find really interesting is that Trakin addressed Palpatine as "you":
Technically, he should have said "...will be great enough for Your Majesty to rule the galaxy unchallenged."

Some ships I didn't recognize in the Rebel fleet... are those pre-existing designs that I just don't remember or are they new ones? I especially like the last one...

As best as I can tell, those are new designs. Granted, they have elements that evoke other craft, but in general they appear to be new. Which is fine, though I am always amused when they do this for pictures of the Rebel Fleet. There are so many existing designs outside of the "Big Four" (ie, MC80 cruisers, EF-76 escort frigates, CR90 corvettes, and GR-75 medium transports) that could be used. Dreadnaughts, assault frigates, bulk cruisers, DP20 gunships, cruiser-carriers, MC30c frigates, etc.

The X-Wing game had the TIE Interceptors created during the early Rebellion Era, prior to the Battle of Yavin, in response to the deployment of the X-Wing. It's the TIE Advanced that are appearing in limited numbers at the Battle of Yavin and then in the add-on campaigns afterwards. The A-Wings are similar - as the Farlander Papers indicated, they were first being used by the Alliance prior to the start of the game, as the Imperials had already been reporting their existence in the data captured at Turkana.

    [face_laugh][face_laugh] :_|

    Likely stories for coming issues:

During the hunt for Rebel base sites, Han discovers long-lost coordinates to the legendary planet of Ord Mantell, only to be pursued there by Bossk.
Leia purchases the location of a planet called Hoth from a former asteroid miner named Lando Calrissian.
General Dodonna is killed after stumbling on the Death Star construction site at Endor with a group of Bothan spies.
Said Bothan spies take refuge on Naboo, where they make a heroic last stand with local resistance member Gregar Typho.

Ok, so I made it to my LCS today and grabbed the issue. To recap my thoughts on the first arc, I was very impressed by the art and the use of EU elements, but I did feel the story to be a tad bit lacking and predictable. I don't fault Brian Woods for this, as telling a story based on character we know survive does rob the series of the suspense that a KOTOR or Legacy vol.1 & 2 had. I definitely enjoyed the first arc, but I have high hopes that this new arc will kick things up a notch. General thoughts, good & bad, below:
    • The Fleet Junkie in me cannot help but love the opening shot of the Executor and it's escorting fleet arriving at Endor. The actual style & location were not my particular cup of tea (more on that in a moment), but the sight of Star Destroyers and the Second Death Star are enough to get any fan of starships excited.
    • HOWEVER, I am a bit worried about the continued use of DSII. Issues of construction timelines aside, I feel that seeing it so much and reminding casual fans that it is there is a needless reminder of what is to come.
    • Ryan Kelly's art is good, but not my favorite. No disrespect intended to him, but it just does grab my attention. His starships are fairly accurate though not to scale (however, this is common with almost all comic artists, so I cannot fault him for it). His character faces are a mixed bag. I think his Leia, Han, and Wedge are rather good likenesses, but Luke just seems off.
    • The return to Tatooine suprised me. For starters, cause Randy Stradley has joked (actually, been quite serious) that he doesn't want his authors going there unless they have a real good reason. I think Brian Wood's idea actually worked very well. OOU, fans often complain that we see Tatooine too much. However, Luke returning home from a thematic standpoint to bury his aunt & uncle and fire his resolve to fight the Empire worked for me. The paralells to the scence in AOTC when young Anakin Skywalker buries Shmi were very well done.
    • The Han & Chewie side plot still seems like just filler to me. They really need to devote some time to that plotline to make it have some meatiness or they need to get them back to the fleet.
    • I loved the idea of suborbital Golan Battle Stations designed to keep people in. Reminds us how wicked Palpatine is and how much the former capital of the Galactic Republic has changed since becoming Imperial Center. I hope we get a closeup of the stations in a later issue.
    • Nice EU nod in the form of Bossk's Hound's Tooth. I have always liked the design and it once again shows that Brian Woods is more than willing to use the EU as an inspiration for his story.
    • Escort Carriers & Star Galleons in Colonel Bircher's Imperial task force? Very nice use of fairly obscure ships that are perfectly at home in this era. In addition to the Devastator, Bircher also appears to have at least two more ISD's in his force.
    • The whole "Let's board the ship and hack into the computer plot" has potential to be either very good or very bad. Either way, I like the decision to keep focus on the spy story and the various espionage elements that we keep getting.
    • Seeing Wedge & Luke's YZ-775 make me smile, cause I love those puppies. So wicked and they combine alot of the coolest elements of CEC design.
    • Birra Seah. I am still not sure what she is doing. And, to be honest, I wonder if Brian Woods had second thoughts about the character as well. I cannot figure out why they would make her a moff and just as quickly make her a spy of Vader's and demote her to lieutenant. I have hope that she will end up playing a more meaningful role in the series, but so far she just doesn't do much for me.
    • THE REBEL FLEET. I never tire of seeing my beloved fleet in formation. Plus I love the running gag that I just have to post "Any shots of the Rebel Fleet" and they almost magically appear. Am I a wizard? [face_thinking][face_beatup]
    • Sorry, back to the fleet. I love the continued use of the term "Home Fleet" for the Alliance navy. Folks tend to forget that for many of the Rebels the fleet was their only home. If it was lost, they lost all thye had. I think that in the post-BSG reboot years that alot of fans & authors have picked up on this vibe thanks to the aforementioned series. Sure, the primary role of hte Alliance Navy is to be a top line fighting unit to liberate the galaxy and oppose the Empire. But it is also a roving group of space motorhomes. Home to beings that have either lost their home or forced (by circumstance or choice) to leave their homeworlds and fight the Empire. This vibe gives added symbolic power to the Rebel Fleet that alot of authors tend to forget. Kudos to Brian Wood for capturing this vibe and expanding on it.
In all, I liked the issue but still hope it kicks things up a notch. The continuity issues that some point bother me a bit less, cause I have long been of the opinion that the early Rebel years are a near hopeless mess thanks to hundreds of comics & novels set in the 0 ABY - 1 ABY. Barring something major, it is easy for me to overlook these things in favor of the story.

To be fair, Hound's Tooth and it's model of ship appeared a few times on TCW, so it's a bit more mainstream of an EU reference than, say, Punishing One or Mist Hunter.

Well, of course the Emperor never objects -- he's the ruler of the galaxy, not a tinpot dictator who's begging for respect from people. It probably doesn't matter to him what people call him, but Loyalists like me will always try to ensure that the proper protocol is followed.

As far as Amidala goes, I'm of two minds on that. On one hand, the princely style may well work with an elected queen -- as I recall, the holy[sic] roman[sic] emperors[sic] used highness until about the 18th century or so, before royal and imperial styles got truly standardized.
