That, quite possibly, could be the most badass way to remind audiences that Leia is a Skywalker and/or introduce her Jedi powers in EpVII. If Luke did something like that, it might be cool, but we'd EXPECT that from The Last Jedi, the guy we figure is restarting the Jedi Order. I think the "rhyme" from the OT might be less well-received, too, since it's "just" Luke... "Meh, he's just doing what Vader did."

With Leia, tho... hell, you've seen how many people on the forums simply assume she'll be a politician cuz that's what she was in the first film, and assume she WON'T hone her Force-talent either because of that or because of the way the EU always pushed her Jedi training back for decades? Or that they FORGOT that Luke told her she could learn to use the Force, and sensed that Luke wasn't killed in the DS2 explosion?

And at least with Leia, the 'rhyme" would make a little more 'logical' sense, too--she was IN THE ROOM when Vader did that, so it's a move she's seen in action. (besides, Luke already 'rhymed' it in ROTJ, from a certain POV, grabbing the guard's blaster in Jabba's throne room)

Where's that "what do your eyes wanna see" thread, cuz that needs to go on the list!

Definitely would be an awesome way to introduce Leia in the upcoming movie.

That could work, depending on the reason for the guy busting in & opening fire on a political meeting... some malcontent yearning for the return of the Empire, or dissatisfied with the way the Republic had been running things the last however-many years? Maybe she finds out he was put up to it by someone, maybe a firebrand who's been a thorn in their side for awhile (akin to Nom Anor early in NJO, if memory serves, tho perhaps not as important to the plot/villain's faction, just part of setting the stage). Amidst the hoopla, she could wave off any guards who responded to the disturbance or who were perhaps already in the room, and have 'em simply escort him, gently, to the meeting table or whatever it is.

Ahhhhh... fun ideas! I love it.

This really needs to be rectified in the ST. Surely, the entire Force-sensitive population can't be split between two ideologies like the two trilogies made it appear.

I also hope to see some conflict between the Force-sensitives and non-Force-sensitives. It's high time that this gets explored.

I'd definately love to see Force-sensitives who are average people aside from their Midichlorians.

    Why?

I disagree... that kinda thing's already being explored in The Legend of Korra, between 'benders & non-benders. The difference is, in the world of Avatar:TLA, there are TONS of 'benders.

In the GFFA, particularly only a few decades after the death of the Emperor, there's only a tiny handful of Force-users. Even if there are thousands of non-Jedi, non-Sith Force-users out there who managed to keep a low profile during the Dark Times, never incurred the wrath of the Emperor, it's still a tiny fraction of the galactic population, and most of them--those non-Jedi/Sith types, anyway--are probably a bit more local, part of a particular world or people's culture, not something new, not something spread across the galaxy... even when the Jedi were at their height, there were only about 10,000 of them in a galaxy of TRILLIONS. Sure, they had a fancy temple on Coruscant... but they weren't exactly treated like royalty.

The only reason for there to be any Force/non-Force tensions in the GFFA at this point is due to ignorance lumping Vader & Palpatine in with ALL Force-users. I mean, that's perhaps a valid avenue to explore in books, and I think has been, somewhat, with mistrust of the Jedi at various times, but I don't know that it needs to be seen in the ST. Leia & Luke's parentage may or may not be widely known, but after a few decades it should be obvious that they're NOT like Vader or Palpatine; Palpie ruled as Chancellor for over a decade before declaring himself Emperor and probably a few more years before him being a terrifying tyrant was known--it's still possible that the vast majority of the Empire, from citizens to officers, had no idea the Emperor could kill with a thought. In any case, Force-users of the Jedi variety are definitely gonna be in the extreme minority, even if Luke trains his students roughly as quickly as Yoda trained him. I doubt he'd be finding new candidates for Jedihood super-frequently. The EU's start-of-NJO estimate of about 100 Knights & Masters in the Jedi Order is probably generous compared to what we'll see in the ST, I imagine... tho I've nothing to base it on other than a gut feeling that Luke probably won't start off training a dozen students at once.

So I'm not sure a Force/non-Force rivalry would really find a home in the ST... not on a large scale, anyway. Best bet for something like that is if one of Luke or Leia's kids ISN'T strong with the Force, and maybe is jealous of their superhero siblings/cousins/whatever--or vice versa, one of 'em yearns to be 'normal' and hates that they're expected to carry on the legacy of the Jedi.

I don't think it's a matter of lumping all Force users into Palpatine's camp but more the fact that there is always a possibility that one could be that would have many suspicious. Sure by the time the ST starts Luke and Leia have obviously shown themselves to be trustworthy but like you pointed out Palpatine seemed like just any ordinary hard working senator for decades before revealing his true colors so why couldn't the same be true for them? I could definitely see many with this point of view. I think it is only natural after so many years under a Force user's tyranny and I really hope to see it explored to some extant in the ST.

The distinction with Luke & Leia is that their Force-abilities are public (well, Luke's anyway, we can probably safely assume), whereas Palpatine's status as a Sith Lord, let alone having magical powers at all, was probably something most of the galaxy & even much of the Imperial infrastructure & military was largely unaware of... his tyranny was thus independent of his powers, in theory--tho it's never explicitly stated in the OT whether his abilities were common knowledge. Even if his powers WERE known to many, it's something he kept secret for decades of "public service" before it came out during his Imperial reign, and I think that would make a difference in public perception of the Skywalker twins & their families.

But, the idea of the public equating Force-powers in the upper echelons of government with tyranny may be in there... but it'd be pretty easy to avoid if Luke's Jedi aren't at the beck & call of the Senate or whatever government body exists. If Leia's more of a liaison to the government, it might not be much of an issue... if she's Chancellor or something, then it could easily be a BIG problem.

But it's not something I really expect or want to see in the ST... people worry about Luke's theoretical wife, Mara or not, taking up too much screen time... what about the idea of Force-users being untrustworthy, if that's not the driving force behind the ST's conflict and/or a smokescreen set up by the true villains of the ST? If it's just a philosophical side-note, why spend much time on it?

Because I think it's important to show that the legacy of Palpatine hasn't been washed clean and that the Jedi of the PT haven't been forgiven for the role they played in his rise to power. I think that it's only a natural consequence of everything we've seen before that Force users wouldn't be totally trusted at this point and I personally would like to see that on screen. I think Yoda's mandate to Luke that he rebuild the Jedi Order shouldn't come without major road bumps along the way and I think a good way to show this is to have a main villain or a secondary villain who is distrustful of them. Yes, I think it should have a huge impact on the story and the main characters.

As for Luke and Leia being known Force users as opposed to Palpatine I think it's likely with Luke but not so sure with Leia. However, even if they are how many know that they are the children of Darth Vader? I think that could definitely play into people's distrust of them. Point is I think it is an interesting story to explore and definitely one that has some legitimacy.

Hey, what about Leia just reaching for a cup of joe using the force. Just a nod to ROTJ. I think JJ is that type of director. Leia stopping a gunman with the force, way too serious for Star Wars...

    I voted No.

Before anyone yells at me (lol) just hear me out. Unless the Jedi code changes (and who knows, maybe Luke does this) they are forbidden to marry. I think Leia ends up marrying Han and has children, and helps to build the Republic back to its former glory.

On the flip side, Luke is the last remaining Jedi after Episode VI, and Leia would be his logical apprentice. So who knows.

Speculation On Leia's Role In Episode VII - Here's how I see Leia's role in Episode VII. She, Han and teenage granddaughter Allana are visiting the planet Naboo. There the Naboo humans and the native Gungans have elected to make Leia their 'honorary queen'. A gesture of acknowledging Leia's long-lost connection to planet Naboo. On a symbolic level 'the princess finally becomes a queen' motif. To do this Leia, Han and Allana are at the late Queen Amidala's tomb. It will be on Naboo that Leia and Han will perish. I speculate that a 'Triad Union' exists between the Hutts, Mandalorian 'Death Watch' terrorists and the Lost Sith Tribe of Kesh. This Triad Union has built a fleet of Death Stars. One of them has exited hyperspace and orbits Naboo. Before Naboo is destroyed young Allana manages to reach the Millenium Falcon. Her grandparents make a final stand so the girl can get away. Allana must now reach Luke, Ben and Jaina. She'll find that they have problems of their own. But this is only speculation on my part.

A little too much EU in there, I think...

...a fleet of Death Stars? Really?

There's nothing in the "Jedi Code", as it were, that says "Jedi are forbidden to marry"... nor is the code in the movies. The old Jedi Order, the one that failed, had a bunch of rules. Yoda & Obi-Wan knew the rules had partly led to the blindness that led to their downfall. Yoda & Obi-Wan didn't exactly impart many of those rules, on-screen, to Luke. Yoda told Luke the Force was strong in his family, pass on what he's learned. Therefore, Yoda's kinda saying "Teach your sister, the one I'm about to reveal--well, hint at, and let Kenobi's ghost do the rest of the explaining--and then if you or your sister ever have kids, teach them, too, since the Force will be strong with them".

Before Luke ran off to confront Vader, he didn't tell Leia "in time, you'll learn to use it as I have...but you've gotta stop seeing Han."

Still hoping Luke'll be totally fine with any & all Jedi having families, himself included, with the simple rule: "Don't be like Anakin." Don't be a possessive, obsessive, whiny, power-hungry jerk (aside from TCW, when he seemed mostly well-adjusted but with a dark streak), and everything'll be a-ok.

Toon--"There's nothing in the "Jedi Code", as it were, that says "Jedi are forbidden to marry"... nor is the code in the movies."--Wait, I'm no expert on the prequels, but didn't they cover this in episode 2 and 3? That's why Padme and Anakin had to keep their relationship a secret. Right?

BUT...I mean, considering that the Jedi are on the verge of extinction, it would probably be in their best interest to bend the rules a little bit in this area. And the quickest way to get more Jedi is probably just to make 'em yourself the old-fashioned way. So, that said, I think Leia would be allowed (and heck, probably encouraged) to marry Han and have a family.

    That would come under:

"The old Jedi Order, the one that failed, had a bunch of rules."

Rules against marriage, being separate from the "general code" that discourages anger, fear, aggression, and hatred.

Don't think they will pass up the chance to tie the story together.

Leia: Luke, don't talk that way! You have a power I don't understand and could never have.
Luke: You're wrong, Leia. You have that power too. In time you'll learn to use it as I have. The Force is strong in my family. My father has it. I have it and... [looks directly at Leia] My sister has it. [waits for the words to sink in] Yes. It's you, Leia.
Leia: [astonished] I know. Somehow, I've always known.
Luke: Then you know why I have to face him.

Vader: Your feelings for them are strong. Especially for your... sister. So, you have a twin sister. Your feelings have now betrayed her, too. Obi-Wan was wise to hide her from me. Now his failure is complete. If you will not turn to the Dark Side... then perhaps she will...

Can't see the writers - if Leia truly has a decent part in the next film - just going, oh she didn't want to bother when Luke is rebuilding / has rebuilt the Jedi
Its about the Skywalkers after all. :)
    Hopefully.:p
