It will probably just result in a background check for 3D printers.

Maybe not even that, if the Republicans have their way.

That's true, I failed to take into account the fact that distributing free guns in high crime areas is now GOP policy.

If there was anything that could really get home plastics manufacturing off the ground - guns are probably exactly that thing.

I don't think they will succeed at that.

I look forward to "you wouldn't steal a car" anti-piracy ads having to deal with people torrenting corvettes.

Fun fact, did you know the makers of that advertisement ("Wouldn't Download a X") got sued for copyright infringement? Apparently they used the dubstep-ish crap that passed for the soundtrack without permission. :D

Commander Chris Hadfield continues to be awesome. Alas, he is leaving the ISS.

I heard about the plant communication thing somewhere a couple years ago, so it's not really new.

I long for the days when it was only OZK who kept bringing up that topic.

Sounds like the Kepler mission really is over. The press conference sounded like a mission eulogy, with a look ahead to the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) scheduled for 2017 launch.

That io9 article has about as much substance as the bullet list of articles I get from my employing university every day. You ascribe it arbitrary significance because they're pre-vetting the heaping mountains of news that goes nowhere interesting and finding the ones that could conceivably result in a breakthrough in 50-60 years.

Meanwhile the warp drive article openly admits to, and I quote, "insurmountable hurdles" present in one of the two major theoretical discussions of the notion. You being bitter does not magically make your arguments more fundamentally sound.

    >Dr. White believes that advances he and others have made render warp speed less implausible.

So your entire point is that someone thinks he's got an answer. Wow. That's Tony Stark science if I've ever seen it.

You continue to demonstrate that you fundamentally don't understand our criticism of using io9 as a source for learning science. No one has said every single sentence in an io9 article is wrong. What we are saying is to not use it as a primary source of science news because it's terribly written and does contain many errors and misunderstandings.

I don't know why you insist on fighting this battle. Is it really that important for you that various illogical and implausible science fiction technologies become real? Is it important enough for you to reduce what little legitimacy you have every time you post on this subject?

Why do you use the same logic you criticize religious people of using?
    1) "Here, I've found one scientist who agrees with me" while completely ignoring the vast majority who don't
    2) "Prove to me exotic matter doesn't exist"

You need to really think whether it's more important to cling to your fantasy or learn real science.
