exactly the one, rerelease of the old one with lots new crosssections and stuff!
10 or more new pages. written by the one and only Ryder Windham!

Details forthcoming as soon as my copy arrives, till then I live off the Amazon Look Inside function and a not really readable cellphone picture of the medical frigate of a friend.

They were pretty nice additions. Though I do not think there was a whole lot of new info provided on the medical frigate, but I could be wrong. The Home One stuff was very cool. They did cut out some things from the older editions, but still glad I got a copy.

Here's to an Expanded Universe edition one day, :), at the very least I hope they continue the tradition of cross section books for Episode VII.

The real winner in the book is the brand new Home One entry. It is a beautiful two page spread showing the MC80-type Star Cruiser in all her glory! The following tidbits were the best:
    • Befitting it's earlier role as a deep-space exploration ship, two large upper portions of the vessel are capable of detaching. The primary is the area containing the main bridge is the main "shuttle" that was used to transport people to and from planets. To give you an idea of the side, this "shuttle" is probably as large as 300m. The secondary passenger "shuttle" is placed towards of the front of the vessel, above the bow.
    • WEAPONS BLISTERS. As we have all long suspected, the various blisters on a Mon Cal cruiser can contain numerous systems, such as weapons, sensors, and shields. We see a starboard weapon's blister that opens to contain a battery of five quad turbolaser emplacements. The panels on these blisters open during combat, revealing their deadly contents. :D
    • The armament for Home One is listed as being 36 heavy turbolasers and 36 heavy ion cannons. These numbers fit well with the vessel, plus the fact that they are presumably multi-barrel and heavy helps explain their added punch.
    • Still set at 1300m. I know some folks don't like that, but at the very least it is refreshing to see LFL being consistent these days. Leeland Chee confirmed this is in the Holocron, it is on the Fact File, and it is now listed in the Complete Vehicles.
    • The central atrium of the vessel contains a water environment, with beaches and vegetation. The area surrounding the atrium is overlooked by accommodation suites. Apparently, being stationed on converted pleasure and exploration ships has an advantage. :p
Again, not tons of new information, but the visual is STUNNING. Seeing a cross section of a Mon Cal cruiser is long over due.

So how long until we have a saucer, er, section separation sequence with Home One? That's the newest thing I've seen so far in the guide, though I mainly remember it because its a tad unusual (finding out sections of Home One can detach and fly around on their own). Could be useful for loading supplies faster when the shuttle itself is a part of the ship. Wonder if this idea could be applied to Luke landing the Justice's bridge on Mindor, though that takes away a bit from Luke's accomplishment.

Since Wndham is the new author listed on the backcover, all the new stuff was probably written by him? If so, good choice for this book.

Edit: is the bridge of the Medical Frigate (as seen in TFUII) talked about at all?

The Bridge of the EF-76 is shown to be somewhat spacious from looking at a copy in the store, but until my copy shows up from amazon, I can't make a good comparison.
Grr at 1300m Home One. Though the new Shuttle element of Mon Cal designs does lend itself extremely well to fixing the Viscount retcon- The 3 Km "prototype" Viscount we see in Vector prime is just the ships shuttle, showing off from a recent commissioning, while the main section of the 17Km ship is in a dock after it's shakedown cruise and combat against Imperial holdouts. 3Km to a 17Km ship fits pretty well with the ratio on a 300 meter-ish Home One shuttle for a "1300 meter" ship. It would also make logistics for Viscount much simpler, as while a 3KM ship is rather big to land on the surface, being able to load supplies and personnel directly would simplify resupply immensely. And there is even a somewhat suitable shaped bulge in the center of the ship that resembles the Home One shuttle, but larger.

Okay, if they don't make the Viscount 17km like the rest of her class, and just have the 3km craft be her shuttle, then the MC line is officially broken.

Nope, nothing specific like that. We do see the main reactor, which appears quite large.

It would of been nice to have the Liberty as well. I guess they are saving that one for the Ultimate Super Complete Edition. :p

Hell, they haven't done the medium transport as well!

LFL's insistence that the MC80 Independence-class (Home One) Star Cruiser is 1,300m is actually the root of many of the MC line issues. If the Independence-class was longer than 1,300m, such as 3,200m, which is more befitting of the largest Alliance ship, then there would be no reason for the Mediator to be a measly 1,500m, and, therefore, no reason for the Viscount to be 3km.

Here are some things I noticed so far:

    - They removed the mentions of the Mandator and Procurator-class on the Acclamator-class page, its just says something like "larger warships"
    - In the Venator intro they removed the word "battleships", and now instead says they are used as escorts instead of escorting battleships
    - Removed the bullet regarding the Quaestor crashing into and destroying Pammant
    - Doing this from memory right now, but I think they also cut the NTB-630 Naval bomber crashing into the Munificent-class warship and killing that Jedi Master

There are probably more, but at first glance that's what I got. You can visual see on some pages that there is less stuff there, especially on the Episode II and III ones. Some of them are odd, because you would think this was done for space, but they just left the unused spots open in most cases.

I don't think any of the technical info in the back of the book was changed. The only other thing I noticed was that the Confederate ships kept to their original lengths and not the ones in the Clone Wars cross-sections book.

I only wish some cruise ships here on Earth had a 5in gun or some VLS cells on board :)

    removed stuff for no reason?
kept wrong lengths? or overruling TCW book now?

what the hell happens here? it says COMPLETE vehicles... it is far from complete if they remove stuff for no reason. poor people who get this then instead of the old one which I luckily have too aside all single editions also.

I thought Ryder just added to the books new crosssections. Not seeing any reason why they would mess with existing entries.

It really depends on your perspective. Home One being 1300m is canon, making it only 100 meter longer than older sources. The Mediator-class was always described as being the sucessor to the MC80 series, hence why is being 1500m is actually good sense AND an increase over the older 1200m cruisers. And I remind everyone that there is NOTHING in Vector Prime that makes the Viscount-class Star Defender 17km. That decision was made by WOTC in an effort give balance to a table top game they produced. Even if you cling to the idea that Home One is 3.2km, the Star Defender should be less than 8,000 meters. ;-)

I have no idea how to scale stuff, so I will leave it to folks smarter than me to look at the Home One illusration (which shows the shuttle Tydirum and Millenium Falcon in the hanger) and determine if the scaling is wrong or not. In the image, at least, both fit in the hangar. :p

Ultimately, the length stuff doesn't interest me. I am still just super stoked that I got to see where all these turbolaser batteries are hidden. :D

I just can't think of the Viscount as being anything but 17km like the rest of her class, and I was already under the impressing she was a big ship when I read Vector Prime. Star Defenders are meant to counter Star Dreadnoughts, so they simply have to be comparable in scale to each other.

well an A-Wing countered a Superstardestroyer in ROTS and was not comparable in scale ;) Size matters not :p

Tactics and some other nice tech are better. In Tie-Fighter game even 3 Star Galleons or other craft were enough to get a Stardestroyer in trouble if deployed with the right tactics. and Mon Cal never were megalomanics like KDY

I asked Ryder Windham about the changes and his reply can be found thx to him allowing me to post it on facebooks Star Wars Sourcebooks page! Go check it out if you are interested to learn more about the book and why it was improved. It makes sense after all!
