I suspect its my age and the fact I read ALLOT of Romance novels that gives me cause to use the word 'swoon', and fact is, you're a Wedge fan, a SW fan and a Pilot fan.....so that is all that is needed for me to 'swoon!'

    Dawww, thanks. :)

I've been a Wedge fan from the first time I saw the movies as a kid.

    My logic went like this:

"Luke was whiny for the first couple , (This was before "Whaaa-nakin" and the Prequels) Han was kind of a jerk (Admittedly a cool jerk) Lando sold Han out, but this guy Wedge, he's not a Jedi or a smuggler. He's good enough to survive all these battles where people just like him die like flies and be absolutely calm in the process, and he felt so bad about leaving Luke behind in the trench on the first Death Star Run that he helped blow up the Second one too! I guess if I was gonna be anyone in that universe, I'd want to be Wedge."

I want to know more about him!

And then I saw the X-Wing Books at the bookstore and started reading them with my little brother...[face_party] and the rest was history.

    I found this on TVTropes:
"I survived the Battle of Yavin. I survived the Battle of Hoth. Hell - just a couple of weeks ago I blew up the Death Star during the Battle of Endor. The reason I'm still breathing when a lot of other good Rebel pilots aren't? Maybe it's because I'm better. Or maybe I'm just lucky."
    Wedge Antilles

I guess I've always had a lot of admiration for and investment in the "Badass Normal" character in an Ensemble cast who doesn't have much in the way of "Special abilities" so to speak.

Phil Coulson from the MCU, Dee and Felix Gaeta from Battlestar, Jayne from Firefly, Sam and Sybil Vimes from Discworld, Karrin Murphy from the Dresden Files, There's just something about a character facing things with sheer grit, determination and grace in a galaxy of extraordinary things. It's certainly informed my writing and the way I see the world.

In a way, Wedge Antilles started that for me.

Without getting too sappy, Wedge is my Wingman.

Guess it's our e-sib bond or something. I just pictured all those tentacle-face things under compound eyes...

Wow, SnubJockey. Very very well said! =D=

As much as I like the X-wing pilots. Han Solo has always been my favorite :)

I really loved Corran for a while... but he never beat Wedge. Not ever.

Stackpole wrote Corran so you liked him. At least to a point. He did a great job creating the character.

My top three - Wedge Antilles, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ben Skywalker. Rustle the order around depending on mood.

Mine? Wedge, Tycho and Kyp... [face_love] Kyp is always at the top, Wedge and Tycho move order depending on mood.

Ooh, Tycho is wonderful, but... yeah.

I have to admit, Wedge is number one far more often than not. I solve it by pulling them all in and making them part of the same family. (I do this to EVERYBODY.)

Good ensemble cast of Droids, as well (they may be metal and circuits but they need love too!). Whistler and Squeaky being top for me.

Whistler is so good, he's about half the reason I loved Corran so much. Squeaky is hilarious.

I'm about to recast my top 5 after rereading some books.

    Wes Janson
    Wedge Antilles
    Anakin Solo
    Luke Skywalker
Corran/Mirax Terrick Horn (They have to share 5th. They don't mind.)

For me it's always been Wes Janson with his assorted cohorts. [face_love]

Obi-Wan Kenobi. I became more of a fan after the PT. There was little to no wavering in his resolve. He saw things very clearly. Yes, he didn't see the level to which Anakin was descending, but who did.

After that, it gets tougher, but I suppose it has to be Wedge and Tycho.:D

Old Republic, definitely Obi-Wan. In my opinion, he was the greatest Jedi of the Old Republic in those years leading up to the fall of the jedi.

For pure character and wisdom I too would choose Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Seriously, I watch the PT for Obi-Wan, not Anakin.

Makes me respect Qui-Gon greatly. In TPM Obi-Wan was all about adhering to the strict rules of the Order, but by the end of everything he was a lot like his master.

He was the closest to a "Normal" character as we got for those movies.

This guy had some good ideas:

I've seen that before, and he does have some great ideas... Less of the Obi-wan/Padme though. It just... doesn't work for me.

Trying to cast the EU and the Next Gen. It's... interesting. (Translation: somewhat frustrating, but fun all the same.)

Obi-Wan/Padme? No. But yeah, I'd seen it before and his ideas had some potential.

I may be one of the only fans in the world that actually liked the Obi-Wan/Siri Tachi dynamic...

I keep stunt-casting the EU books, and I get Jeremy Irons for Thrawn, Sam Elliot for Pellaeon, no problems, but who would play Wedge and the Rogues?

Now, probably James McAvoy for Wedge, Tom Hardy for Janson, maybe Tahmoh Penikett for Hobbie, no idea for Tych.

Oh, and Michelle Forbes for Isard. No contest.

I think Tom Hardy for Janson would work.
