I like how the interior of Home One looks like it belongs in one of my old biology textbooks.

Sorry, back to your regularly scheduled Fleet Junkie debate.

Nah, that's run its course, as usual. ;)

It's bizarre that it took them this long to include the MonCal cruisers and the Nebulon Bs - I've always considered them to be as iconic as the other main ships from the OT. Home One must be one of the few sci-fi "organic" ships that doesn't equate that with "gross".

Has anyone done a comparison with older material about the Nebulon-B interiors to the new version?

Where would such older material come from- West End Games splatbooks?

I have a dim recollection that there was one WEG sourcebook or adventure that had a cross-section of a Nebulon-B - I'm pretty sure the old EGVV did. Maybe it was the old privateer adventure set The Far Orbit Project?

I know we've had blueprints for Corvettes and Gunships, even Victory SDs. Not sure about Nebulon-Bs.

It may have just been a cross-section of the levels. I'll try to pull my old WEG stuff and see if I can find anything.

Edit: Great Scott, Far Orbit Project has an incredibly detailed description of a Nebulon-B, including selected floor plans of certain sections and decks. Now I'm really curious about the comparison...

The Star Wars Technical Journal has a complete four page fold out of the Medical Frigate. The locations depicted on this older source match 100% with what we see in the Complete Vehicles. It is great to see that the artist of the Redemption picture in Complete Vehicles did his research and made sure he didn't contradict anything.

EGTW not only had a Victory cross-section from Starfall, but also a new ICS-style cross-section in the same image:

    It's a shame I can't find a higher-quality version anywhere.

The Far Orbit though would have a different set up then the Redemption, as it was an Imperial patrol frigate, not a Medical Ship.

A majority of major structural elements, especially deck space, should be roughly consistent however.

Properly, though even there they might rip out ceilings if they need to as afaik the Far Orbits TIE and Shuttle bays were there were the Medical one has the patient wing.

I'm still not convinced a Nebulon Frigate has the room for an internal fighter bay.

Well it is bigger than something like an Invincible-class aircraft carrier and it is by no means a big fighter bay though I am actually more curious how the shuttle bay fits.

I was really hoping that the Complete Vehicles would try to tackle that and show a cross section of a standard EF-76 with a hangar. I am not good at scale like some folks, but there are three decks that can ultimately be removed where the standard hangar opening is usually depicted:
    • Recovery ward deck
    • Intensive care unit deck
    • Bacta tank deck
The cross section removes the hull from this section, so we get a sense of scale. This opening would be sufficient for launching starfighters. Ultimately, you can fit +/- 24 starfighters in the hangar if it is long and narrow, filling up the majority of the three decks I mentioned. It would be tight, especially given the need for support facilities for the fighters, but I do think it could work. I just really want someone this good scaling & artistic skills to take a crack at it!

Seems like as good an interpretation as any for why books say it can hold 2 squadrons, but no bays are seen on the Redemption.

The Far Orbit has its TIE fighter bay in deck one of the forward section, said to hold "two squadrons"; two small docking bays are in the boom section; the two shuttles fitting into the bays are about 30m in length apiece.

I think that's for TIEs, though, which might be slightly smaller than X-wings and Y-wings. Though the majority could be moved around and in storage like on a real carrier.

I'd have thought that, with those huge wings, TIEs take up more space, not less.

24 TIE Fighters would be easier to launch as they can be rotated quickly on their racks, allowing for quick deployment. For a standard Rebel fighter complement, with is presumably 12 X-wings and 12 Y-wings, you could probably only have half a dozen fighters in the ready position, with the remainder stored farther back.

That is very disappointing. The Home One is clearly much longer than 1,300 meters (the conservative scaling I did on the temp board placed it at 2,300 meters in length) As G-canon overrides C-canon I'll consider the ship to be at least of that length. :p Other than that it's good to see additional material!

I wonder (and hope!) if we're going to see a new edition of the Complete Locations book...[face_thinking]

I actually like that length. It is certainly more reasonable then half of what I've seen. It is ridiculous that it would be any more then this length.

Orthographic profile of the Home One model. Length of the ship is (very roughly) 103 times the height of the shuttle bay. So the minimum length must allow for sufficient height for the Lambda shuttle to pass through. With a minimum height of 23 meters for the shuttle in landing mode, that gives 2370 meters, matching Mange's numbers. But we know those numbers are highly conservative, as the docking bay height is much greater than the shuttle:

Why is that "ridiculous"? It's mentioned both in the ROTJ screenplay, which also shows the intention ("[...] surround the largest of the Rebel Star Cruisers, the HEADQUARTERS FRIGATE."), and the ROTJ novelization, which is based on the screenplay, that the Home One is the largest ship (though we see at least two other ships which appear to be of the same class).

Furthermore, there are two things that are certain that proves that the ship is larger than 1,300 meters. AdmiralWesJanson has already touched on that (and I did the scaling in the same way): We know that the hangar opening must be large enough to let a Lambda-class shuttle through and we know the size of the hangar aperture in relation to the entire ship.

Objections have been raised earlier that the scaling is off on other ships in some shots in ROTJ which is true, but that is of no consequence when it comes to this scaling just because of the two facts mentioned above. I think this is just Licensing being lazy.

Or they acknowledge that scaling is all over the place in the movies, the Falcon alone is pretty amusing here, as is the Rebel Transport and the Corellian Corvette, the Escort Frigate is also somewhat off though that is mainly due to the Falcon seeming to bee even larger then usual in the ESB end shoot and lets better not even get into the PT here.

As I said, other instances of scaling errors in the movie is of no consequence because of the two conditions mentioned above.
