You lose points for leaving these out. And the poor, forgotten K-wing.

    But if you insist.

I'd love to see a continuation of the Eta-2 Interceptor, the X-Wing and the Tie-Fighter and the Star Destroyer.
The Hapan Battle Dragon would be awesome to see on the big screen!

I briefly considered some larger scale warships like those, but at the end of the day the majority of my picks were based on the assumption that the main enemy isn't the Empire or an Imperial remnant.

As for the K-wing, I literally was going to use it in place of the X-83, but when I got to thinking about it, the idea of Jedi starfighters makes sense given their key role in the Prequels. I was tempted to list a few more Legacy era designs too, especially given how awesome the Pellaeon-class Star Destroyer and Scythe-class battle cruiser are. The Action V bulk freighter was a close contender for the runner ups as well.

And what of the Bothan Assault Cruiser? How many more Bothans must die for them to finally get their own ship on-screen?

Believe me, when you look at the EU, there are literally dozens of starships that could be deemed essential. The Skipray blastboat and the Bothan Assault Cruiser are both great examples of popular EU designs that would look fantastic in then Sequel Trilogy.

My logic for selecting ships was based in a large part on what the Prequels did. Episode I - III introduced starships that were the logical precursors to the main OT designs. I tired to take the same approach to my choices for the Sequel Trilogy. For example, based on the OT, the Rebels fielded X-wings and Mon Cal cruisers. I then chose designs that were both logical progressions of these designs AND visually compatible in the sense that folks would make a connection. If you see a new Republic fleet composed of E-wings and MC80B cruisers, the image is both new and at the same time harkening back to the old X-wings and MC80 cruisers.

It was really a fun excerise trying to pick vessels based on this criteria. To be honest, the Nebula Sar Destroyer choice was a last minute switch, as it dawned on me that from a purely symbolic and visual standpoint, having the ST show a mixed fleet of modern Star Destroyers and Mon Cal cruisers would be the ultimate blend of the Repulbic & Alliance navies. It would simultaneously tie the Republic of old and the elements of the new all in one nice visual.

We all have our own lists, but I can tell you that taking some time to really think them through and weight the pros and cons was rather fun. :)

You're assuming Lucas wouldn't find some way to turn Bothans into winged four-armed tripedal purple gorilla people that speak with Irish accents.
