Because she would be a good choice as she's a good actress who would likely respect the role and give it her best.

To be fair I don't think Bay sucks on purpose. I doubt he's making choices to be contrary or spiteful. He just doesn't give a **** what you think about his work or source material he is working from.

What about April O'neil playing April O'Neil?

Before replying I started ticking off my concerns re: this film and Megan Fox as April was like #5. That actually made me say "Oh...my...God." outloud.

Michael Bay is now saying there will be no alien origin. Yay!

Michael Bay must be destroyed. He is going to ruin TMNT.

He's not making it anymore, thank God. Jonathan Liebesman is the director. He gave us Battle: Los Angeles.

Battle: LA is just terrible because of all the needless shaky cam nonsense. It's basically a boring version of Independence Day.

Actually that's not entirely true. He has clarified that the Turtles themselves will not be aliens. The confusion stems from his original (poorly worded) statement:

At face value the statement seems to note that they themselves will be aliens. However, if you know the original comics origin (the canister of ooze that changed them came from TCRI, a company populated by Aliens) you can read into it that they are not themselves aliens but are the product of aliens. That would remain entirely true to the canon and as Bay has since clarified that statement, this seems to be true.

To clarify further Kevin Eastman (co-creator of TMNT) also makes a statement relating to the Bay project:

Michael Bay is still involved, it's being produced through his company Platinum Dunes (a deal that resulted from the TMNT buy-out by Viacom/Nickelodeon in 2009). He was never directing the project, only producing, there would always be someone else directing it. Not that Liebesman is an improvement.

It's what Independence Day would have been if Roland Emmerich watched District 9 and said "I'm gonna have a piece of that!" while completely missing the point of everything that made the movie enjoyable.

As a random aside, another thing Bay's film will never come close to achieving, emotionally (as if there were any doubt):

Strangely enough their head shape reminds me of the 2007 film.

The 2007 film was terrible, and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

I thought most of TMNT was actually rather good as a partial sequel to the live action films. Outside of the shift in dynamic with April/Casey and the inclusion of Shredder's daughter (whom I believe was a thread from the 2003 series?), it wasn't too shabby- the plot was only so-so but they nailed the characters. the whole "went their separate ways and must come together again" angle to start things off was pretty excellent, and the Raph-as-vigilante plotline was also good, leading up to the Raph/Leo throwdown which is a franchise highlight.

The extra dimensional beasts and stuff, not so much.

ShakyCam, Gray Screen, Strobe (debris throw effect) followed by staccato fire ECUs, Lean Outs and mid shots without practical application,
amid a soundtrak of endless explosions, gunfire, etc

It's a good way to kill time between the small snippets of plot pasted in from time to time to give the film a feel of legitimacy. .

Not related to Bay's film, but I was able to catch Turtles Forever last week, which involves the turtles from the 00s cartoon series coming into contact with their counterparts from the original 80s series (and then more besides). It was fantastic =D= (if you don't mind the somewhat overemphasis on humour from the 80s turtles). The entire movie is available on Youtube if you want to check it out:

What is that supposed to demonstrate? Is it all from some unified, famous event? Because of it's just random drawings of ninja turtles looking sad, I'd say that's exactly on par with Michael Bay's emotional sophistication. Torture porn doesn't make for compelling emotional drama anymore than CGI explosions make something exciting.

It's fan art depicting each character as if they were the last ones standing after some brutal battle.

What's brilliant about it is that its not just about a character looking sad but rather a great, emotionally evocative snapshot of who the characters are, even in their worst moment.

Leo, as a leader and warrior, would honor them in a way that he could take them into battle with him.

Donny, as the inventor, would honor them by making something.

Raph, as pure emotion and anger, would break down (probably just before doing something very stupid as revenge).

Mikey's isn't as strong, though- I suppose the fact that he's not cracking wise there (while his nunchuks are cracked) could count though.

This looks... awful. Even with the turtles looking pretty okay.

And yeah, I had no idea Megan Fox was playing April O'Neil so that's pretty terrible...
