ST Episode VII Release Date Discussion

At D23, Alan Horn re-confirmed Episode VII for 2015.

That doesn't stop this site from starting a rumor that it's delayed to Christmas or out of 2015:

For some background information, this is the same site that swore that JJ Abrams was going to quit the movie...

 

Actually Alan Horn confirmed Ep VII coming Summer 2015.. this rumor is completely bogus.

Summer 2015 is likely....even though I'm debating how good of an idea that is. I mean summer is VERY VERY crowded.....

 

Honestly, if they delay it a year because they think that's what they need to complete the movie properly - I have absolutely no problems with that.

 

I support this 100% percent. I'd rather see a Star Wars film done right rather than rushing ahead to meet some arbitrary deadline set by the suits at Disney.

If the release date gets pushed to December, it would make sense from a financial standpoint. This rumor might be bogus, but I wouldn't disagree with Disney's decision if true (note Avatar and Titanic). But what I don't understand is why the CEO of Walt Disney Studios would come out and say SUMMER 2015 just one week ago. If this was in the mix for a December release date, he probably would have just said 2015.

 

This site didn't attend D23 and didn't hear him say that, thus they made up this rumor.

 

I HONESTLY thought 'Sith' suffered from being rushed to make the sacred 'May release' date, and I would rather wait a few more months for a polished E7 then have the new trilogy start off on a bad foot. We've waited longer, after all...

 

To be fair what they may be hearing are people within Disney questioning the timing of the release of Episode VII. From a logistical point of view it would make sense because you would give the production more time and breathing room by moving it from the overly crowded summer 2015 field.

I'm also from school of thoughts that think a delayed E7 won't make the movie better.

Lucas knew in 1997 that the movie would be released in 2005.

ROTS storyline might look rushed since Lucas crammed everything in the end

 

Oh I agree with you Frank on the writing part, however I do think you can "over write" Star Wars. I think the concern most people are having is when the cameras roll. Does Abrams have enough time to finish the film properly? I certainly believe he does as Star Wars' production schedule would almost mirror that of Into Darkness. Star Trek began principal photography on January 12th, 2012 and had a North American release date of May 16th. So there's certainly more than enough time to make this film.

But still, I can't understand while Alan Horn would say Summer 2015 if they were leaning towards a December release date.

 

Honestly I hope its moved to Christmas 2015. The rest of the summer that year is far too crowded.

 

If this rumor were true then Alan Horn saying Summer 2015 would further imply that there are some unknown issues with Episode VII which not only prevented any info being leaked at D23 but are now forcing the movie further down the road...

 

*shrug* It's the other movies that should be worried if Episode 7 releases in a crowded summer, heh.

 

Yes....I love J.J....but I sincerly hope that he's not trying to rewrite the whole thing.

You know....a delayed movie is always bad news

However, from what I've heard....the delay could be more about :

1. J.J. might be interested in filming all three movies at once. This way he won't leave every 2 years for the UK with his family.

2. Because of this, they are writing the whole trilogy all at once.

 

And everyone is interested in the same movies?

 

Im speaking from a work standpoint. I work at a movie theater, at some point thete is just not going to be the room to put tentpole movies out. Plus Disney already has 4 movies coming out that summer.
