Jedi Council/FanForce usually gets more than 2 exhibitor passes, but they're always reserved for the people who help the most with running the table, like me. ;)

You can also volunteer with the convention itself, but expect to be working quite a bit.

I volunteer with Official Pix and they ask for at least two 4 four shifts. It's a great time...the only catch is that they don't provide admission badges as an incentive.

Um, as far as I know SDCC tickets never go on sale more than a year in advance, so they can't have sold out a couple of years in advance. I haven't been to DragonCon, so I can't comment on their sale schedule. But it's true, we are used to a 12 month schedule.

Did CIII sell out? It's a fair point that CV and VI aren't a good standard given the different situation. CIII, being right before Episode III, is probably our best basis for comparison.

I'll probably buy before prices go up a lot, but ... still not seeing the need to give them my money this far in advance. I know all those things they use it for, but I need it more than they do for now. :p

No SW Celebration has ever sold out, but prices do go way up a few months before. Back in 2000 I got my SDCC ticket about 18 months out and they had been on sale for a few months already. So, I guess things have changed considerably since 2000. (and after that aweful experience I'll never go again!!). The point was that many events sell tickets way in advance, so why are so many people shocked when CVII went on sale 18 months out? It's kinda the norm for big conventions like this. No hurry yet to get tickets. End of this discussion, please.

I am afraid I am slightly less certain about the convention now. It's not that I don't love going to SW conventions with you guys, am not happy about it being on the west coast, or that I'm not excited about the new movie. It's a vacation time issue. My company has started a holiday shutdown policy which requires us to use 1/3 of our year's vacation allotment over the winter holidays. As a relatively new employee, this is making it very difficult for me to build up enough saved vacation time to take a real vacation of more than 2-3 days. I'd originally planned on a 2 week trip later this summer, but I had to cancel for this year. In order to be able to do it next summer, I'm pinching vacation days. I hope that I can do both CVII and the vacation in the fall, but it will be close and depend on whether anything else comes.

Should we start a separate Episode VIII and Ep. IX thread(s) cause they announced a director?
...well, when they officially announce Rian Johnson as the director...

Yes, but I am really hoping that this is just a rumor, and that Abrams will still be up for another one. This announcement should not be made until after episode VII is released IMO.
