Exactly. The Ewoks were a distraction to keep the Empire occupied so the rebels could finish their mission.

They must have been 'yay' to have spawned this many action figures, surely!

Yes, but it makes them a contributing factor that is essential to the victory, which I think is what he was saying.

I think the hate for Ewoks sure calmed down after Episode 1...

I grew up around Return of the Jedi and that post-ROTJ era, always dug them. They could have been made less cheesy here and there, but they aren't grating like cheesy things in the prequels.

Exactly. Without a lot of help from the ewoks, there was no way the Rebels could have won, which is why their inclusion bothers me.

In Return of The Jedi: Infinities, the Rebels win without being directly helped by the Ewoks.

As some of the people above me say, they were too integral to the Empire's defeat. I wouldn't have minded the Ewoks If they played a smaller role.

So that makes it a nay for me.

I once took the greatest troops in the world to a build a bear and we lost, so maybe it wasn't a fluke.

Ewok haters need to watch Return of the Jedi.

It's this little indie movie where the Ewoks and Rebels almost lose, and it's (get this) a WOOKIEE who pulls their fat out of the fire and turns the tide of battle.

Also, in this little indie movie (from the early 80s I think?) The Emperor is a Faustian devil character who is not above bending the truth when he wants Luke to despair for his friends on the sanctuary moon.

Anyway if you hate the Ewoks you might want to check it out. Maybe it's on Netflix.

Nay for me, it kills some of the tension from the whole Luke/Vader/Emperor scenes.
I've come to accept them, but I don't love them. Frankly, I don't think they are any better than Jar Jar.

I actually voted both options, because I'm indifferent towards them. I don't like the fact that a bunch of pint-sized teddy bears defeated what was supposed to be the Empire's best legion. But, you look at it from another point of view, and you see an insanely nasty alien. They're capable of capturing the Rebel Alliances' finest, not to mention the most powerful Jedi in the Galaxy, with nothing more than stone weaponry. They then nearly get to go through with their plans of cooking and eating their prisoners. After the battle, they're seen using the helmets of their conquered as simple musical instruments!

Don't you think that just maybe Palpatine was boasting? He has been known to bend the truth........from time to time.

Ewoks and Gungans are awesome, and if you don't like them then you just don't understand their species!

Yep. A thousand rampaging wookiees vs. "an entire legion of my best troops" would've been far more believable.

I feel pretty neutral about them. Alot of fans seem to forget Ewoks took over Star Wars for quite awhile, with two spinoff films, a cartoon series, a ice skating show, books, comics, and even the first version of Star Tours had alot about Ewoks, with ads for trips to Endor to meet them. There is still a good amount of Ewok hate out there, even Lost made fun of them.

    Yah.

I never hated them. I like the broader message that they brought across.

They prevented Star Wars from becoming Game of Thrones.

But an unbelievable victory is more glorious. And besides, they nearly lost until Chewie and friends turned the tide.

    The bolded is true.

I consider the battle of Endor to be Chewie's "finest hour."
