No. I meant the illusion of her own self-importance.

 

on a deeper philosophical level, sure. everyone's sense of self-importance is an illusion. but in the context of the culture we live in her self-importance pretty much reflects her status. i'm not saying that it's right that miley cyrus is apparently super interesting to millions of people, just saying that for whatever reason she is. and she's killing it right now. someone made the point that she has more talented peers. and it's totally true. but she still stole the show.

 

Question for those who pay more attention to these things than I do: was her "performance" any more outrageous than typical performances by Madonna, Brittney Spears et al? I certainly don't mean to defend Cyrus, but was she any raunchier than Madonna usually is?

 

Considering I don't think Madonna ever masturbated herself with a foam finger or simulated anal sex (at least not on the VMA stage), it was probably a bit more outrageous than some of the others that have come before her.

meh, Gaga's catalogue is pretty much standard, run of the mill, dance-pop. i'm no fan of pop in general but compared to say, Madonna, there is no comparison.
