I'm a time traveler, so I've already seen them. They're certainly better than the SST (Super Sequel Trilogy) if nowhere near as good as the SPT (Sexy Porn Trilogy).

I've always anticipated the sequel trilogy a lot more than the prequels because this trilogy will feature the much anticipated return of the big 3(my favorite heroes Luke,Han and Leia) and my favorite starship the Millennium Falcon and also Luke coming back as an Obi-Wan type Jedi Master rebuilding the Jedi Order and Han and Leia rebuilding the New Republic against the remnants of the Empire and an awesome new villain and finally the Big 3 passing on the torch to a new generation of heroes possibly at the end of Episode IX and those heroes possibly having their own trilogy after Episode IX in the form of Episodes X-XII?

Considering that I don't want all three of them back - and I mean Hamill, Ford and Fisher - I'm not really anticipating the ST that much. Certainly not Episode VII. I'm not into "recapturing the past". Talk about lack of imagination.

I'm less interested in recapturing the past than, hopefully, recapturing the magic that was sorely lost in the PT. For me, anyway. I think I'm looking forward to the ST much more than the PT. Case in point, I was so eagerly anticipating TPM- but when it was over, I desperately wanted Luke, Han, & Leia. It was so radically different from what I remember SW being that it took me awhile to accept and appreciate it. It really feels like all of the elements that I missed in the PT are back in place.

I was so disappointed with Episode 1 initially that I've never allowed myself to get so hyped up about any movie since then. Now after multiple rewatches I can appreciate the PT for what it is and I consider myself a fan of the entire saga. So I'm looking forward to Episode 7, but I'm not frothing at the mouth with excitement. While I'm happy that Han, Luke and Leia will make an appearance, I also hope that their story won't dominate the plot too much. We need some fresh faces in the franchise.

We waited 16 years for more Star Wars movies, and since the OT is beloved by so many, the Prequels were expected to be just as good. Well, some of us either liked it, or hated the final product. That being said, it "sort of" diminished the anticipation of future Star Wars films, and because so many people thought the Prequels were such a letdown, any new movies would be just as disappointing.

Most of that is true. I waited 16 years between ROTJ & TPM like most and was disappointed. I don't think it had all too much to do with the quality of the film, it was just so different than what I was expecting and I have no one to blame for that but myself [excluding Eopie farts & Jar Jar'isms of course]. The very same could happen with Ep. 7. At least this time I'm aware that there's room for change. It took me quite awhile to compromise my belief of what SW is...and I hate compromise. I guess a direct result of my initial reaction to TPM is that I'm more open-minded about what the new trilogy will be.

Why? Han, Luke & Leia as older characters will pass the torch to the next generation in this trilogy. Its like saying I don't want to see Anakin, Obiwan, & The Emperor in the PT because we saw them in the OT.

With all the current fans and the power of Disney, this film will break all kinds of records.

Regardless of what happens, we "anticipate" the new movies.

I think the anticipation level will be different, depending on who we are talking about.

all the prequel hate aside for a moment, I think that the general public would've had more anticipation for the Phantom Menace back in '99. but as far as the ST I think much of the general public may either be unaware or indifferent; aren't really paying much attention to it right now, what with all of the other anticipated movies also coming out in the next couple years. Blockbuster movies and their accompanying anticipation is a whole different animal in this decade. I think the fan base is really more the group that will experience a higher level, simply because either they were:

    1. unhappy with where the PT went

    or

    2. because they had been looking forward to this part of the story since return of the Jedi.

I personally would have to say I was actually more excited for the Phantom Menace-not because I think the prequels will have been better than the ST will turn out to be, but simply because I was at a different point in my life: I was fresh out of high school, at a point in my life where I was going to the movies at least twice a week, and had just become the sort of true Star Wars fan I am today-whereas now I have a full-time job, bills, mortgage and a 14-month-old daughter...I simply have more things on my mind -more things to distract me at this point in my life, and although I will always be excited for these new Star Wars movies, I have come to terms finally with the fact that I have more things in my life now to focus on...

I think that the ST has the potential (considering how well movies like this are made these days) to be absolutely great! but instead of completely shunning the PT and hoping that this new trilogy emulates only everything we love about the OT in way shape and form, I am doing what I have always done and will continue to do:

Enjoy the saga as a whole...

I enjoy the saga as a whole but its no secret that the PT was a subpar effort. Nevertheless I still watch them and enjoy them, but from a storytelling aspect the OT wipes the PT clean. I'm really looking forward to the ST, only because I don't know what's going to happen.

Its called sarcasm, and my view of Episode 1. Not necessary, but neither is anything else on this board, its not necessary but it brings us enjoyment.

I doubt it will be as anticipated. In 1999, we had gone 16 years since being able to watch anything Star Wars related that was new. Yes I know they had books out and no I don't count Droids and Ewoks as being something seriously Star Wars related. The internet was still a complete unknown to many people (but not me - I'll never forget downloading the first E1 trailer... took about 2 hours...) so Star Wars was simply not a presence in peoples' lives.

But now not only has it been only 10 years (a long time but still less than 16), but we have so much Star Wars stuff that came out since the last movie and is still coming out. There was the Clone Wars mini-movie, 5 seasons, and Star Wars Rebels.

Not to mention the Celebrations, which have also kept fans pretty active between trilogies.

    Seems about equal to me.

The PT had a longer build up after a long drought and was prefaced by the SE re-releases. The ST was a surprise. The general tone of expectation is different now. SW has something "prove" again after all the belly-achin' over the PT and TCW. But the PT & TCW broadened the canvas so much and so many films & TV shows have attempted to imitate their scale & scope, I don't think the general audience will be satisfied with a re-hash of ANH. In '99, I think the audience would have been happy with a smaller scale film like that, if the story was as strong.

Now? Die hard OT fans and self proclaimed "Geeks" might be satisfied; but a generation of film-goers used to genre films on a massive scale will probably be expecting something even bigger than the PT films.

I'd be prepared to be dissapointed then as I bet Leia and Han will get the same amount of screen time as Bail Organa. ;)

The return of the big 3 could generate more hype than the PT.
