    Hello, all...

I figured I'd post some of my 2D artwork here... IDK where else to put it, since it's not SW-related, so if a Mod wishes to move it, so be it. Anyway, one of my free time hobbies is creating alternate versions of flags, and representations of fictional flags. Below are some examples of my work. I create everything using both Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop CS2.

    Republic of Emmeria (Ace Combat)

    Germania

Get rid of the vignettes and look at the negative space of the first and the rest is good.

The shading effect bugs me - flag design presentations should favor clarity for easy reproduction. Or, if nothing else, to make the color scheme obvious.

    Designs are nice, though.

I assumed the shading effect was supposed to create the illusion that it's a "real" flag.

I kind of like the shading. [face_dunno]

Thanks, all! Yeah, the shading effect serves two functions. One, I feel it's a nice artistic touch. But mostly it's there for security... it makes it harder for someone to take my images and alter them.

But didn't you take someone else's designs and alter them?

I like Emmeria. It reminds me of my SCA coat of arms.

Osean Federation? I mean I'm Irish, but that's blatantly racist.

No... not really. These are variations/concepts... they don't claim to be the "real" flags of the respective nations. Plus, AFAIK, these are ideas that I alone have come up with. I use the shading filter so that I can tell if someone takes one of the variants I have made, and claims to pass it off as their own, or alters it. It still takes time and work to make these. I mean, this is comparable to fan fiction... you're essentially playing in someone else's universe, but the story, characters and plot are all still "your" creation. As for the "Ace Combat" flags... as you can see, I provided written acknowledgement that they are from that universe, and not something I alone created.

Think you can do anything to fun-up Mozambique's flag? Nations that put automatic weapons
on their banners just don't give me that "come share our happiness" vibe.

First off get rid of that book. Books mean learning, and that's definitely not fun.

Yeah, the CSA had a terrible time coming up with a national flag... they went through three or four different versions,
and none of them worked out very well. I think the Lego Thrawn concept might have been practical.

    Okay, I am sorry.

Am I really the only one who keeps coming in here thinking there's going to be something related to that indie science fiction movie that came out a year or so ago?
