If there is one SW game you wish they'd make, what is it?

    Here, I'll start:

    X-Wing vs TIE Fighter 2.

The original X-Wing / TIE-Fighter / XvT series are still some of the best SW games ever made, and the only real downside is that it's a PC game made for the PC's of 20 years ago. So the graphics, size and scope of the world/universe and battlespace are limited as you'd expect.

A new XvT made with 2013 tech, and for 2013 PC's and/or consoles would be pure gaming porn to me. Plus the online multiplayer angle would inevitably be huge this time around.

    Yes. Gods dammit, yes.
A new Star Wars space simulator is what I want and it defies reason that they have not yet made one up to now.

Space Sims just aren't as popular anymore. Which is a shame, never got to play the old TIE Fighter games.

Personally, I want a new RTS. I don't care if its Empire at War 2, or something else...just give us a good Star Wars RTS please :p

I also vote for a new SW space combat sim. Throw in online play for player v player dogfights, maybe some RPG elements (be a smuggler or mercenary a la Wing Commander Privateer).

    I'll keep wishing.

There were quite a few very succesful ones. That X series, Freelancer and EVE Online is going strong, with Star Citizen being quite a promising new addition to the genre.
I don't think it's that people don't want to play those kind of games, it's just that no one has made any in a decade or more. EVE Online is a quite complex beast, so it's not for everyone also, but proves that there is an audience for space based sims.

I live in hope that the era of the Oculus Rift will bring about a renaissance in space combat sims. Because if there's one thing the Rift is freakin' made for, it's games like that.

Oh, where to start? My number one wish would be for Rogue Squadron 4, but I'd also pay just about anything for a follow up to Empire at War. A Clone Wars version (Republic at War?) would be absolutely fantastic.

I think that nowadays a space sim might have more success as the sort of game sold on Steam and console online stores for 15-20 bucks instead of a 60 dollar AAA title. Something based around online skirmishes, it could even be free with the option to pay for fancier ships (but i hate freemium things so i won't wish for that). I could see this being really fun though, with an FPS-like match-making system but with clans and larger battle scheduled. I could really get into that.

I would enjoy a new KOTOR 3 but tbh aside from the battlefront which is already being made, that 1313 game looked decent and a completely new series would be cool. But if I had to choose one KOTOR 3 because battlefront is being made

I want another KoToR. Bioware needs a chance to redeem themselves after making that mess of an MMO TORtanic. Another Dark Forces/Jedi Knight would be cool too

I would pay an exorbitant price to have a modern entry in the X-wing series, but as previous posts have stated, the genre is sort of dead. I concur that the most realistic possibility for a Star Wars space sim is that comes out as a Steam/online store game. Maybe even as an iOS/Android game. I've got Galaxy on Fire 2 on my Nexus 7 right now, and the game mechanics would totally work for a Star Wars game. I could also see some sort of freemium model working--if anyone has ever played World of Tanks or World of Warplanes (I have a WoT account and am in the World of Warplanes beta but don't have time to play), I think that would work for a modern Star Wars flight sim as well. I would much rather just have another entry in the X-wing series with the traditional style of gameplay mind you, but I'm not going to get my hopes up for that.

I actually think an RTS is much more likely than a space sim since the genre is still kicking. Heck, EA is still milking the old Command and Conquer IP. Maybe that team can work on a Star Wars RTS after it's done with the latest C&C reboot.

My favorite game by far is Star Wars: Empire at War, sadly the expansion Forces of Corruption was terrible due to the balance issues. But I would love to see a remake of Empire at War.

Draconarius: There was a mod made by z3r0x called Republic at War for the expansion Forces of Corruption. http://www.moddb.com/mods/republic-at-war Here is the link, I see it as the only "good" mod for the game. The mod it's self is basically a remake of EaW considering it's around 2 gigs to download.

The poll on the topic I made about EA recalling old SW games shows that people want KotOR III the most, with a Jedi Knight/Tie Fighter style game tied in second. I totally agree with the results of the poll so far.

For a game that we haven't really seen in SW yet though, I think that we need to look at other franchises.
A Red Dead Redemption inspired bounty hunter game could be interesting - but I suppose that could have been 1313.

A survival game, like Tomb Raider, could also be fun if it had some Jedi Outcast mashed into it. A young padawan and her master crash on a planet, lightsaber broken and with limited force powers. As she finds her master and a way off the hostile planet, she builds a new lightsaber and grows in the force.

A strategy game along the lines of Company of Heroes would work perfectly for Star Wars. Empire at War was cool, but not really much tactics in that one. Just gather your guys in a group and charge.
A Total War kind of title could work great for an earlier Star Wars period - one where they use blasters, regular melee weapons, where you have large numbers of Jedi / Sith as elite melee units, where you can have cavalry both on animals and bikes and so on. That would be damn awesome.

EaW's tactics were based around you're starting units, after that it was based on if the Rebellion could kill and deny mines without losing to many fighters. At least that's how it was in space, I never got into Land due to the balance problems it had. Most games on EaW were played at tech 1 and on land Rebs had to much mobility and sustain for example AT-ST vs T2B tanks, AT-ST's had to use it's ability "Barrage Area" to win 1vs1, but the T2B's could just simply move away after the ability was activated. But I would also say a Star Wars RTS game similar to CoH would be a lot more fun.

Agreed, but I gotta say that at the time I was playing stuff like Dawn of War and Company of Heroes and was a longtime Total War fan - compared to what I was used to, Empire at War seemed kind of shallow to me. It was great fun, don't get me wrong, especially with a few mods I got but couldn't compare (in my view) to these other titles. Dawn of War had some early cover mechanics and offered quite a lot of variety with unit customization - adding weapons for this and that. Total War was a completely different beast altogether, so not really fair to compare it, actually but still Empire at War kind of seemed to go back to the early Age of Empire days or Warcraft/Starcraft stuff. What you say is true, but I don't really see it as tactics as much as numbers and special ability use. Moving my Star Destroyer this way or that, didn't really affect all that much. Moving troopers behind some cover or flanking or taking a hill didn't matter all that much either. Land battles were just a zergfest.
Again, I enjoyed it but it simply wasn't my kind of thing at the time. Something along the lines of Company of Heroes would fit absolutely perfectly with a Star Wars theme. Speaking of which, strange that no one made a mod for it...

    I have 3

    1. KOTOR 3 (yes I know about SWTOR, would still like to see another KOTOR game)
    2. Battlefront 3 (obvious reasons)
    3. The Force Unleashed 3 (come on you can't leave us with those cliffhangers!)

Battlefront 3 was my main choice, but since it's actually happening....

I'll agree with a new space combat game. I'd take either the X-Wing/TIE Fighter or Rogue Squadron series. A true KotOR 3 would be a close second though.

But when it comes to 'new' games, I'm very excited to see what Visceral Games is going to do with the SW licence. I love the Dead Space series.

The real third entry into the Knights of the old republic series. Also i can't stand Real Time Strategy games, one of my least favorite genre's of all time.

    In no particular order:

Battlefront III was at the top of my list, thankfully I can (at least for now) pretty much scratch it off
1313 (really saddened that this was killed off)
Empire at War 2 (perhaps with a heavy mix of Rebellion)
    Jedi Knight IV
    Rogue Squadron IV
    Starfighter III
    The Force Unleashed III
KotOR III (love TOR, but I'd still like this to be made)
    X-Wing/TIE-Fighter sequel
    Republic Commando 2

That's all that comes to mind atm.

I'd like to see a proper sequel to Dark Forces, following Kyle's time with the Katarn Commandos, a.k.a. Page's Commandos. And by "proper" I mean a dedicated FPS, not some genre hybrid that incorporates third-person action elements. Don't get me wrong, I love Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight but I want to go back to blasting stormtroopers like a badass while running at Doomguy levels of speed.

It actually doesn't defy reason at all. The video game industry at large is, and has been for nearly a decade now, in a state where developers believe that playing it safe while maximizing profits means assuming that players are morons. Consequently, gameplay gets dumbed down to the point where you can comfortably play the title on a console.

Compare any Rogue Squadron game to any X-Wing/TIE Fighter game. There's not nearly as many gameplay elements for the average player to juggle in a Rogue Squadron game. Meanwhile: Hi, I'm TIE Fighter and I want to you to allocate your resources, manage your squadron, flip through your targeting computer like a keybinding wizard, and blast Star Destroyers to pieces, all while not flying into anything or getting vaped.

We're not likely to get another X-Wing game, ever, unless the market shifts again, this time away from the casual audience.

tl;dr: space sims are dead unless the developer is named Egosoft.
