Have you read Denning's post NJO books? Alema gets mutilated beyond belief, Raynar gets burned and scarred badly, Caedus tortures Ben, Kam gets shot 3 times in the head and or chest, Tionne loses part of her arm and then some more of it, Ben and Tahiri in Invincible, Luke orders Jaina to take out Caedus, Allana got put into a war zone at age 8, Warv Bazel had his intestines coming out before he died, Corran lost 3 fingers, Han Solo in Crucible-The Shuttle crash/explosion, the 1st Sabacc game [face_sick], the 2nd Sabacc game [face_sick][face_sick]. You cannot tell me that the books lightened up after the NJO. The NJO has nothing on the post NJO galaxy.

For me, I'd add it's an interesting revisiting of a series over a decade later.

To me it is a walkthrough of a series that has shaped the EU for that last decade without having to read it.

In that respect, I think you're missing a fairly crucial aspect - though I am the same on LOTF! ;)

To me it is more Cossack or James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickok

Whose stupid idea was it to travel into intergalactic space?

Don't know, but I am tired of boiled ooglith, so when we find her...

The stew will be a bit meatier!

So why didn't Shimmraa get cooked? Fat bastard, lots of meat on him.

Maybe they were just fattening him up?

I think they ate Quoreal, actually. He was the guy Shimrra overthrew right after they reached the GFFA.

I'd have called it 'the Vortigern' or 'the Iceni' personally.

EDIT: This is in response to the Moustache question.

I just read Balance Point for the first time, and while I wouldn't put it up there with EoV, it's not as bad as people have been saying. It's a little slow, sure, and there isn't much of an ensemble, but I quite liked it. Plus we get the whole Nom Anor reveal, which was cool.

On the other hand, if I'd shelled out £20 to read it in hardcover expecting something as game-changing as VP, I'd be quite annoyed.

More along the lines of having wasted away/destroyed their own resources (yeah, I´m aware the scale is huge, but this is SW, not Planettes). So they had to either migrate or fade away. They did, found a suitable place, and got to it. What´s so strange? Countless societies have done it here.

If this was a movie, some complaints would make me think people had been paying more attention to their popcorn than to the screen.

Are you reading through the NJO in its entirety for the first time, or have you read other books in it besides those that preceded Balance Point?

If you buy any hardback full price you should be very annoyed.... With yourself! Seek out da bargains, often pre-ordering is the way to go.

Amazon typically sells $27 hardbacks for around $15 for preorder.

Precisely! It's the only way I ca afford them - ends at the £10-13 mark over here. For the last few months though SW hardbacks are only coming down to the £15 level and I refuse to buy at that point!

Nom Anor disguised as a scientist was awesome.

Jacen seeing weird stuff in the stars, not so much, unless he just stepped out of the Outlander Club.

Gamiel , that's the first picture I've seen of Droma and I did not imagine him looking that way. I imagined him more lizard-like for some reason.

Pseudo-Luke saying "Jacen, stand firm" is cool.
