Look, I know your costs are a factor, but I really have to again put the case for candidates taking the exam while under six-G stress in NASA's oscillator simulating liftoff from Cape Canaveral. What price can you put on education, surely?

Had the absolute joy of seeing Queens of the Stone Age play last night. Absolutely fantastic to finally see a band I've loved for years; even better, they played the song that helped me through rough times five years ago. Fantastic show, completely blew me away!

So we're apparently having one of those "flood" things all the kids are raving about these days. It appears to involve nontrivial amounts of water.

Fortunately, I don't live in a first floor apartment.

Well, apparently the best way to get out of having to hold office hours is for widespread minor to moderate flooding to shut campus down.

    Who knew?

To be fair, even a minor Flood outbreak can get pretty bad pretty fast.

Man, I really don't know what's craziest about this whole thing - that there's flooding so bad they've had to cancel tomorrow's classes, or that I'm still seeing people outside. [face_plain]

I had the same happen for me when I saw Coldplay back in '08. First and best show I've been to so far, which ruined other concerts I went to because Coldplay set the bar so high. Only Coachella has surpassed my expectations.

Correction: I don't know what's crazier - that we have some mandatory evacuations in place farther downstream, or that my local Chinese food place is still delivering.

    Now that's service.

So that Seaside Heights boardwalk that my family liked to go to, got mauled by Sandy, repaired, and was just getting business starting back up again?

Its on fire. Due to said fire having started in an ice cream shop :p

Speaking of rain, here's a lovely photograph of my parking lot circa twenty minutes ago. For reference, we're about 10-12 feet above normal creek levels:

And now they're saying more floods. I never asked for this.

Awesome, the age of the trimaran and Seadoo attack vehicles is upon us--

Well, parking lot and half my walkways are still covered in water, but the creek's receded and we made it through the worst of it. The moral of this entire story is "Just because you've only lived somewhere for a year doesn't mean you're exempt from '500 year flood' events."

Double post, but - Ramza and I got to discussing Breaking Bad and we can't figure out why Walt has a PhD, worked on a Nobel-winning project, and is teaching high school chemistry. IT DOES NOT ADD UP.

It really doesn't. Supposing all he wants to do is teach, he'd be a shoo-in at nearly every university for an instructor position, and those pay way, way better.

Maybe he got publically humiliated and disgraced? Something related to Gray Matter? Who knows.
