And present body image issues along with a variety of other mental and/or emotional issues as well.

Eh... it's not really fair to assume anything about their emotional "issues." I mean, it's possible that some people are motivated to do this sort of thing because of some underlying "issue," but I wouldn't say it applies across the board. I'm more inclined to believe that somebody who was felt inferior because of small breast size would be less likely to opt for enormous implants... that would just be the same situation on the opposite end of the spectrum. It's quite possible some people who elect to do this are perfectly healthy and simply want gigantic jugs, because why not. You know?

With these particular girls the implants appear to have been an investment as it looks like they are probably porn actresses who cater to the massive boob fetish community.

When you say "massive boob fetish community", do you mean the community of people who fetishize massive boobs, or the massive community of those who fetishize boobs in general?

Notice how I used "mental and/or emotional issues" as sort of a garden variety catch all phrase instead of going into a long drawn out explanation of all the possible reasons why a woman might get said implants, some of which may actually be due to genuine emotional issues. You learn about all kinds of crazy things people do when you have a parent who is a social worker specializing in abnormal psych.

"Why not" get extremely large breast implants? I don't know. There are the problems cause by having weights (semi-)permanently strapped to a person's chest-- same problems caused by naturally enormous breasts. But there's also the risk and complications that arise, some of which do not with smaller implants. For example, the implants in the first post usually require multiple surgeries to get them that big, which just increases the risk of the procedure going wrong. The very, very big implants are also of a type (Polypropylene; can't link 'cause Wikipedia porn) not evaluated by the FDA and effectively banned in the United States due to questions regarding their safety.

In my post, I wasn't actually asking why not. I used that as a possible reason for somebody getting the implants. I was illustrating that one shouldn't assume that somebody who elects to have this procedure has "issues." The reason may simply be that they want huge jugs and say to themselves, "why not," that's all. It was a rhetorical question. I know the health risks. I wasn't condoning this procedure... I also wasn't condemning it. I personally wouldn't do this, and I personally think plastic jugs look and feel gross. I'm not going to pass judgment or armchair diagnose people who opt for this procedure, though.

Harpua, I think Even is absolutely right. The truth is that this a major decision. It has very significant financial costs, significantly alters body image, and is a major surgery with a whole cascade of immediate and long term health consequences. It is, as such, unusual for someone to elect it. That may be because they are in a very unusual circumstance, and thus choose to take on these large risks. Or it could be because they simply ignore the risks, and don't make the decision very seriously, which is also unusual. In either case, though, I don't think it makes sense to present it as some sort of common, unremarkable thing. I understand the desire to be judgmental, and I'll agree (as I did earlier in the thread) that it's certainly not always a negative thing. But there is almost always something deep-seated behind the choice. Contrary to what some others have suggested, this absolutely isn't like deciding to change your hair color.

Yes, we know what your post says. It doesn't disagree with the point we're making. But the reasons that some people "just" want them, and want them bad enough to undergo major surgery are pretty much by definition important reasons. This isn't a "some people like Coke and others prefer Pepsi" level choice. It's not unhealthy to make choices based on pretty central elements in how you see the world. Many of the bravest and best decisions in life come from exactly this process. But I think it's important we distinguish how serious or trivial the decision itself is.

I definitely agree. I've been in these kind of debates where someone would liken this procedure to having a disability that needs to be fixed, because it's impossible to attract anyone if your chest is under a certain cup size. It's not a cosmetic surgery that corrects a freak deformity, flat people are perfectly acceptable even in the beauty-obsessed media with impossible standards. (Like Paris Hilton, who is an inspiration to us all.) Giving plastic surgery to someone with imagined body issues is probably a way to foster an addiction.
