I take it you didn't like the changes in 04 and 97?

Lucas has been tweaking the films since the beginning.

I'm still holding out for a complete CGI rendering of Yoda for the OT.

I say this pretty much every time the OT changes are brought up. Once I saw that they were able to change the Yoda puppet in The Phantom Menace to CGI in the 2011 Blu-ray, this became my ultimate wish for any change in Star Wars. To have Yoda changed to CGI in TESB and ROTJ. And I am dead serious.

well the TPM puppet was truly appalling so yeah - changing it to CG was a good move , but the OT puppet/puppetry is just fantastic , I'd hate to see that replaced with CG .

Nah, the puppet in the OT is fine. It would be nice if there was an insert shot of the CGI Yoda training Luke in Lightsaber combat, with the latter being a double whose face we don't see. But that's not a dealbreaker.

In RotJ, there were two added "No's" to when Vader decides to kill the Emperor:

    The "Nooooo!" = NO.

    The R2 rocks = NO.

    Ewok's blinking = OK.

    End of Line.

I am just about fine with the Ewoks blinking too - the changes were a hard drop when I got the BR box set - but inevitable with change, some of us are going to hate it. I now refuse to watch any version of the OT apart from the 2006 bonus discs and Adywan's Star Wars Revisited. Why???

Because even the 1997 Special Edition changes turned it into a cartoon... let alone the 2004 and 2011 versions. And why do I prefer the "Revisited" version of ANH - because the changes were what the Special Editions could have been, not a joke.

    Jumping in late ;)

I'm fine with special editions but like others have said Im not fine with there being no legit way to watch the original theatrical releases. I don't know of any other films where the creator has deliberately gone out of their way to erase them from media. If only George had heard of this guy

"In the future it will become even easier for old negatives to become lost and be "replaced" by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten."

I also think the prequels definitely did hurt the series, out of three close friends who were huge fans of the original, two were totally turned off the series by them and one didnt even watch ROTS. Before the prequels people were always very positive about the series; now, not so.

    ANH

-The cry that Obi-wan uses has changed again. It no longer sounds like Boga and sounds a bit more...odd.
-There's a brief shot where Artoo is hidden, when he sees the Tuskens with Luke and when Obi-wan shows up, where there's additional rocks in front of Artoo. This makes it look odd that he could get in there.
-The Han vs Greedo shoot out is even faster with less of a lag time.

    ROTJ

-The door to Jabba's palace is much wider than before, but his is mostly in the exterior shots.
-Wicket and a few of the Ewoks now blink, in most shots, whereas they didn't before.
-The Lightsabers have been fixed during the duel, so that they're colored as they were before the 04 changes.
-Vader now says no twice, when he makes his choice to become good again and fulfill his destiny.

    TPM

-Digital Yoda from AOTC and ROTS has been inserted in all of his scenes.

I might be missing one or two changes.

UGH! I hate it when people misuse Lucas' words to support their point. What he was talking about there was STUDIOS and companies changing the works of others. His whole point with that speech was about leaving the CREATOR'S vision intact. And George Lucas is the creator of Star Wars, which he can change as he wills. It is NOT the same!
If Disney changes it (like say making the OOT the "official" Star Wars), THAT will be changing the works of the Creator!
