I miss the unique look of Middle Earth in the LOTR movies. The models really made a difference. The sweeping shots of actual New Zealand landscape made an even bigger difference. Apparently it's all been replaced by generic and mediocre CGI, The first look at Erebor at :34 - generic, moving matte painting. The long range shot of the wood elves home at :23 looks even worse - like an 80s era matte painting. Same with the ruins of Dale at :54.

I know Jackson is locked into the look and feel of the "trilogy", so it's no surprise the poor artistic choices that marred Unexpected Journey are just as grating in the Part 2 trailer. Maybe the strain of doing a 3D movie is what has made Jackson's cinematography look so flat and lifeless. It's disappointing and frustrating.

I agree with you, shooting in 3D made him ditch the models and bigatures. That's one of the main beefs with the Hobbit movies, still i'm looking forward to the movies, i believe this will be much better than AUJ which i liked very much

The voice is just the right combination of Benadryl Cummberbund and distortion software.

    Everything else...we'll see.

I hope Part 3 is entirely CGI including the actors as well.

They are still doing that, if AUJ is any indication.

And I don't know what folks are griping about. I want 3 hours for all 3 films than you very much. Yes, I must pee before I sit down, but whatever.

I used to pay a dragon to do some yardwork and they totally sound like that.

This second trailer for Dec. 13’s The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smeowwwwg is noticeably more action-packed, much of that thanks to bigger roles for Orlando Bloom’s Legolas and his elf love interest, Evangeline Lilly, that J.R.R. Tolkien forgot to put in there until Peter Jackson fixed it.

I suppose ideally it would be intimidating yet knowing, and with the age of centuries behind it.

I liked John Hurt's voice for the Dragon in Merlin, he sounded like a wise old beast. But he didn't quite have the fear aspect going, his voice is too soft for that.

Sean Connery was great as Draco in Dragonheart, but again, it was a wise and noble beast.

Whereas Smaug is an evil bastard. :p Before I knew about Benedict Cumberbatch, my ideal voice for Smaug had been Jason Isaacs.
