Disney and EA have brought new domain names for websites. Such as:

    StarWarsAttackSquadrons.com
    AttackSquadrons.com
    StarWarsSquads.org
    AttackSquadrons.com

The last time a company brought domains like this we got Halo Spartan Assault so this is a game likely to be announced in the future at NYCC or E3 2014.

If you would like to read up on the subject:

Some are theorizing that this might be connected to Rebels.

    Interesting title, numerous possibilities.

Could be a starship shooter or even a strategy type of game like Empire at War.

A co-operative starship game could be an interesting turn? Think Xwing vs Tie cooperative, but story-driven with, of course, a kick-ass multiplayer component...

The return of X-Wing or Rouge Squadron would be a step in the right direction. Better yet another TIE fighter! :D

I'm betting a skylanders / Disney infinity type of toy/kids game crossover, if this ever eventuates.

There's something bigger at stake though. If it had worked, and been a success, maybe the X-Wing series might have got a reboot.

I don't think a revival of the X-Wing/Tie Fighter series was ever going to revolve around the success of an arcadey, f2p arena based shooter. This struck me as a half assed cash grab trying desperately to emulate the success of World of Tanks and War Thunder from the word go.

Besides, I think there's another game out there that could lead to an X-Wing revival. Star Citizen is a crowd funding darling and has over time developed a massive following for itself. If that game, or something else in the space-sim genre, becomes a trend setter then it would only be a matter of time before EA attempts to leap in and use the Star Wars IP to get a foot hold within the genre. We've seen Sega do this with Alien Isolation; They noticed Amnesia and Outlast, indie titles that generated a lot of positive buzz through word of mouth, and have stepped into the first person horror genre themselves, using a movie license to generate even more goodwill.

Pretty much this. I wouldn't have been satisfied with a X-Wing reboot that lacked at least some sort of campaign/story elements. No doubt a new X-Wing game would drastically change the gameplay from the original series, but adopting a multiplayer-centric F2P model would not have been appealing to my tastes at all. At any rate, perhaps the cancellation of Attack Squadrons will give more legroom for a singleplayer-centric X-Wing game to be considered.

I hope you two are right. I still feel if they could cancel this after beta, it doesn't bode well for Disney greenlighting Star Wars combat flight sims of any pedigree.
