It could be like God of War III, so the Force Netherworld (Dead Jedi Lair) has become corrupted and Luke has no choice but to venture there and destroy it.

How about a rivalry between Plagueis's spirit and Sidious's?

Well, this analogy just doesn't work, Diggs. And people repeat it all the time. It's irrelevant if the audience knows who a new villain is because they're a new villain. It's like that in any movie or franchise when there's a new villain. The argument is shifting in the wrong direction when we move from what would the audience believe more probable to what does the audience know about a new villain. Two different things.

So if the audience is introduced to Plagueis in the ST and they learn what he's capable of, and that he never actually died, then they would probably find that more believable than a Palpatine return when most of them already saw him tossed down the shaft.

What's "easier" for audiences has everything to do with what they'll know about them. Not what they do or don't know about them now.

By the way, I'm not against either of them returning. In fact, I'd like both. :)

I'm only arguing about it from a marketing pint of view. Everyone knows who Palps is. Only SW nerds know who Plagueis is. Easier to market.

Makes Star Wars easier to market?

Also: how are villains in new movies marketed?

I think we can agree that there's no marketing problem in sight for the ST. :)

They may find moderate success marketing Star Wars by using only this:

Nah they'll shorten the title so it's just called Wars.

There you go. A second good reason why Plagueis will be the villain.

to be fair we could say that about a lot of villains, I mean nobody knew who the scarecrow or ra sha ghul with Nolans batman compared to the joker or penguin. Same thing with Darth Maul and look at they turned out

Maybe the movie is told from the Sith's point-of-view?

You're misunderstadning me. Of course SW is easy as Hell to market. Within that, Sidious returning is an easier concept for audiences to grasp than that guys whose name no one can remember from that bit in ROTS, that's all I'm saying.

Meh, marketing wouldn't be an issue. It'd be the same thing if they were introducing a completely new character, which has been done is just about every movie sequel in the history of forever.

Are we really arguing over marketing new villains?

They are going to have to market 90% of this entire new cast....

Personally after the disaster that was the Basher/Gusher Wars, I'd rather not have a rehash of those flame-fests, so let's leave it be mmmmkay?

But the ST has a new writer and a new director, so Palpatine won't be written that way nor will Mcdiarmid won't be acting like that again.

    2 main arguments against Plagueis.

    1. No one will know who he is. It'll confuse the audience.
    2. I don't want a resurrected villain. I want something new.

I know it's not the same people saying these things, but does anyone else see how circular those arguments are when put together?

and 3PO : Is it your main intention to wind people up, or are you genuinely trying to contribute?

Shouldn't Plagueis long be dead now, I mean, by natural terms? His creation, Anakin lived 46 years, we're supposed to be +30 years after RotJ, and I guess he didn't instruct Palpatine as a teen either. How long does a Muun live? Why should the ST introduce a character as a main villian who sould be dead at least 80+ years ago?

Funny. Went to check wookiepedia and it says more than 100 years for an average lifespan. That's a hell lot of difference.

800 is more than 100. Plagueis could have been a very young Muun.

But how long does a Muun-who-just-happens-to be-a-dark-side-of-the-force-mastermind-who-tinkered-with-immortality live?

I checked wookiepedia and couldn't find the answer to that one.

Nah, I don't know. It kinda feels forced. It's like, "oooh, Yoda was 900 years old, let's make a villian who is equally if not more old". I'm all for species' diversity in SW, but it's just weird.
