So basically....

Fury butts heads with Redford, gets taken down by Winter Soldier, SHIELD gets taken over by Redford and starts overstepping its bounds, Cap, Widow, and Falcon all go rogue with Cap taking on the Soldier while Widow and Falcon work to oust Redford as SHIELD director.

 

honestly i'd love for this movie to be good, but i don't get what people are seeing in this trailer at all. it looks like the g.i. joe movies to me.

 

Well, for one -- I think the Captain America film was one of the more underrated Phase 1 films, so I'm interested to see where they take the character as a standalone in the modern world. Second, this seems to be building on the very adult themes presented in the first film and The Avengers about Steve Rogers being a "good guy" and wanting to fight for what's right as well as being somewhat skeptical in the methods of both SHIELD and the current government, while also still trying to a) work with it/them and b) maintain his own internal compass.

It just happens to be wrapping it in a comic-book wrapper, which is fine -- I think it could be great fun, especially if it pans out when they said this will be treated more like a spy/action film than anything else.

Could it suck? Of course. Am I cautiously optimistic in the meantime? Yes.

 

I'm not blown away by this trailer but it looks solid and they clearly aren't just coasting with the fx, which suggests that Marvel might be trying to step up its game in Phase 2 (which I'm trying to not get my hopes up about but really really want to see happen).

 

This is Brubaker and Epting's run on the big screen. So hype.
