Saga Was Mace Windu right to want to kill a captive Palpatine? Were the Jedi right to want to take over?

Palpy igniting the lightsaber and killing 3 Jedi pretty much instantly might have clued Mace in a tad. As for announcing arrest before that happened, he had Skywalker's word to go on and Mace and the Jedi weren't a fan of the Chancellor anyway.

 

Really? Did I say that? Did my comment about good intentions bother you THAT MUCH? Is the idea that some good intentions can lead to bad mistakes really that difficult for you to accept? Or vice versa?

 

Kind of hard to miss when it's right there on the DVDs.

 

So what is the problem? Why make the following comment?

 

Before finding out about Palpatine's true identity, they did discuss having to take matters into their own hands, if he wasn't going to give it up. They hadn't settled on what to do, just that it might be something to do as a last resort. They were on their way to tell Palpatine that Grievous was dead and wait to see what he would and that hopefully, they were wrong and that he would willing hand over control back to the Senate. Afterwards, they had to do it because if they delayed, that would give Palpatine more time to plant himself further into the office of Chancellor and make it even more difficult to get him out. The Senate wouldn't willingly take the power back unless they were presented with evidence of Palpatine's true nature and that could only come when he was secured and unable to circumvent them.

Once the deed was done and the evidence of Palpatine's wrong doing was made public, then the Jedi would allow free elections and let the Senate run things as before. They have no desire to rule. Never have. That's why they fought the Sith.

Mace's only problem was that he was goaded into changing his mind about Palpatine, which was bad because it was in front of Anakin. For that, I blame him. Others will blame Mace for other reasons, but as a whole it was right to a point.

It means that those who sided with the Confederacy leadership, or those who had been part of that organization would be excluded. Lott Dodd would be one example of this, because in all honesty, there's no way a businessman should be a senator. But he was because he bought his seat in the Senate. Senators like Bail Organa, who were in the common interests of the people, would be looked upon favorably.

 

I don't really think that the Jedi wanted to take over. The guy in charge was a dangerous Sith lord. They may have done this without tact, but that doesn't make them evil

 

Of course not, but that was Palpatine's hook. Remember, he encouraged the idea of the Jedi being just as bad as the Sith. That they would want to take over the government if they could get away with it, just as he had done so the last dozen years.
