So, I worked the ISTE convention this year, (don't ask me what ISTE stands for, because I don't know, but it was about high tech stuff in education). Look what I got to see.

I got to play with the next version of Photoshop during the live demo. Was pretty exciting.

Actually, while I'm on the topic of Photoshop, I have a couple pictures to get opinions on. A friend of mine wanted me to do a picture for his DnD, using the following picture.

The conditions he had were, he wanted the arrows removed, because the character doesn't use a bow. He also wanted some smoke around him, and change the clothing color to be as dark as possible. I took creative liberties with the clothes, because total black looked like crap. lol For the background, I used the content aware patch tool, on the whole thing, then used content aware move on the person, to fill in the blank space, making the whole picture just a solid background, putting him on a new layer. I then duplicated the background a few times, playing with layer modes, and order, dropping a few on top of him, and messing around with opacity and such. Here's the result:

Yup, turned that original background into all that smoke. I like how it turned out. I also darkened the skin a bit, and highlighted the muscles.

Second set is, I have a character in a game we play called shadowrun. This is the orignal image I had been using as her: (all I did to it was change the color of the tattoos and the fire.

I recently wrote a story in which she was captured, and tortured. Her left arm, (arm facing the cam), was cut off just below the elbow, her right leg was cut off half way up from the knee, and her tail was cut off. One of her horns was also broken off. So, she got the limbs replaced with cyberlimbs, (robotic), and grinded the second horn down to match. I found this image on Deviant art, and liked it, since she uses throwing daggers.

I spent about three hours messing around, changing skin town, removing the hat to make it look like a hood, adding a tail, and changing the background, (using the background layer from the other image of my friends character. I also added a bit more smoke around the daggers. Here's what I got.

I'd love to hear thoughts and opinions from people on these...

The problem with the third one is that the original pic had a really well-made background and your edit suffers as a result.

I don't quite get why her body is green from the neck down either. Are those supposed to be robot parts? Why would the robot parts include a belly button but not be painted flesh-tone-color?

    Rick McCallum loves you!

No, that's her actual skin tone. If you look in the third picture, her skin is a redish hue up top, and fades to green at around the neck line. In the last picture, I fade the skin tone at about the neck line around the necklaces. I made the lower left arm, and the lower right leg grey, (more of a placeholder until I can make a metal texture that will work, lol.

    On another note, this...

Does anyone have any fan film recommendations?

The best one that I have seen recently was Light in the Darkness. Very nicely done. BTW, if there is a better place to ask this question...point the way! :p

There was a AE lightsaber preset (not the VC one) floating around awhile back that I use in most of my films; who made it? I seem to remember Ben McEwan?

    Uh... BEST WEEKEND EVER!!!!!!

(very pic heavy post, sorry... But it's not like there's anything else going on around here...)

He played around with the two sabers, I got video.

Daniel Logan is in the background on his phone texting a bunch of pictures he took of Ray and I, to Rays phone. Ray is an awesome guy, these were taken on Saturday, early in the day.

After talking to ray for a bit, I stepped to the side, and found myself at Daniels table. He was all nerded out, showing off the pictures he took, and all that. I then asked if he would take a picture with Frito the Convention Chicken, to which he got excited and said yeah, and this happened.
    [IMG][IMG]

Obviously emulating the pose from when holding Jangos helmet. He then came around the table, and asked to play with the short greenish saber, and swung it around, then just stood there chatting with me for like fifteen or twenty mintus. Giving me martial arts advice, and talking about sabers, the best sites to get them, and all kinds of stuff. He was an awesome guy.

Sunday morning, Leanne and I got to meet Steven Yeun, and Lauren Cohan from The Walking Dead.

On Sunday, I went back with a friend who had a saber staff, to see if Ray would pose for an in combat picture with me. When I was in line, he saw me a few people away from the table, waved and said, "Hey Jacob." I just nodded and said "Hey." without really thinking about it till later. lol The whole "let's take a combat picture" thing turned into a two or three minute saber demo, me there for flavor. Got video of the entire thing, and here's the photo.

Words really can't describe the awesomeness of it all.

Well it certainly has been a long time since I stopped by this end of the Internet. I see a few names I recognize out there. Good to see Adam is still manually signing his posts with Rick McCallum-isms. I think the last fanfilm released when I was here was Ryan VS Dorkman 2. I need to catch up it seems. (I also need to contribute too, my attention span on projects hasn't gotten any better over the years it seems). The Forum has undergone a massive overhaul to be bright and shiny like a Naboo vessel. I miss the old look where it felt like the inside of an X-Wing.*

So what else is new people?

*Grammar specialists: I am not sure if it is an "a" or an "an" when preceding the term "X-Wing." My first instinct is to use "an" because the term starts with a vowel sound (ecks-wing). Or should it be "a" because X is a consonant? Perhaps this is why I could never write a good script.... yeah, I'll go with that.

So, I am going to be going to San Diego Comic Con International this year. It is July 23rd-27th. Anyone live in the San Diego area want to get together and hang out for a bit on one of those days?
