    [:D]

EDIT: And nah, next history article will likely be how Thrawn is inspired by a bunch of historical generals, particularly Hannibal. I'll call it "Find a Way or Make One", even though that quote was likely put in Hannibal's mouth by Plutarch.

It is from the Essential Readers Companion. That is General Han Solo and Captain Onoma on the bridge of the Mon Remonda. :D

Was there actually ever an explanation why the Mon Cal kept their own uniforms? :p I mean the rest of the Alliance/New Republic fleet is pretty uniform, whilst they walk around in what seems to be their System Militia outfits.

More comfortable for fish bodies? Maybe the texture of human clothing rubs them the wrong way.

The Alliance didn't want their uniforms to start smelling like fish.

Ah, the Alliance safe world, Sanctuary, I should have thought of bring that little gem up, seeing as Grand Admiral Paxis is being serious. Oh, how I like the concept of the Alliance safe world, particularly Isis and Sanctuary, shame they are only mentioned in RPG material I don't even have, so I've had to go off Wookieepedia, whose "archives are incomplete" to say the least.

I approve of the Empire playing a role in the ST.

I am really enjoying this series of posts, btw.

I discovered this blog early on a Saturday morning, by the way, and spent literally the entire morning reading it. Good times.

OK so now I've read Part III - I like a lot of what you say, TLI, but I really can't help but thinking the Empire still being around and still being a thread 30 years after RotJ puts a serious dampener on the end of RotJ. I do think that the immediate post-RotJ period probably should have been less 'Rebels magically winning everything' and showed more of a long, drawn-out battle of attrition with actually competent leaders on the Imperial side, but for this to be present in the ST would, frankly, be depressing.

No more depressing than the rest of what the EU has done since then, I think. In the grand scheme of things, whether or not the Imperial state continues to exist in some form is relatively inconsequential, compared to the issues of deposing the Emperor, reclaiming Coruscant, and resurrecting the Old Republic. It certainly doesn't diminish any of the rebel accomplishments - if anything, it makes them seem more benevolent, if they were willing to negotiate and permit a successor state to remain rather than pursue a war of extinction to erase every last trace of the Empire from the face of the galaxy.

I just can't imagine there not being some form of the Empire in the Sequel Trilogy, even if it is just a small state compared to the restored Republic. The images of the Empire from the OT are simply too strong to not be used.

There's also something of a practical consideration. Aside from the Sith and the Empire (I suppose you could include the Vong, if you were feeling generous, but I'll leave them out as I don't expect they'll make it to the big screen), we're just a touch short on iconic and compelling recurring major antagonist factions (even Star Trek has done better when it comes to this). Abandoning the Empire so soon seems like it would be counterproductive, unless one has something extremely interesting with which to replace it. Cutting it from the future of the universe removes far more potential stories than it adds.

It wouldn't be Star Wars without some Imperial presence.
I like the extended ending of ROTJ showing the galaxy celebrating and all but to think that the Empire will be gone for good? Please. Not happening.

The Empire should still be around in the ST. Not the main bad guy but still there. A team up would be amazing.

I'm wondering what the inside of the Eclipse looks like- the superlaser aperture seems to be a long way below the keel. Unless that's actually a launch bay?
