CVII Celebration Noob- 1 day or 2?

Seriously considering buying tickets for this Celebration, my only question is what days should I go?

I'm not really interested in the panels as I can catch up on the news from them later. I'm mostly interested in the exhibition hall and admiring other people's cosplay on the convention floor, as well as meeting up with other JCF folk.
Not sure whether to just buy a Sunday ticket or a 4 day pass to use Saturday and Sunday.

Any advice from people who've done the SW Conventions before?

 

Go for all 4 days! Whether you go to any panels or not, it's all about the socialising and hanging out with friends. 2 days will not feel like enough. Even 4 will fly by and feel too short.

 

My partner and I went to CE in London for all 3 days. It was a long commute each day from the Heathrow area (where I live) out to ExCel. Worth it though - we met up with a couple of people I knew from the boards in a pub near ExCel one afternoon (they were down from Glasgow to go for the day) and the panels we saw were good. Downfall was that there were a couple of early ones we couldn't make due to the travel. Final day a lot of the vendor items were marked down in the afternoon so the vendors wouldn't have to pack them, I got a few things that were too expensive otherwise. Downfall was that we both came down with the con crud for a few days afterward since we were so tired out.

 

Yeah, Saturday was horrendously busy at CE. Sunday was less so but the air conditioning in the halls was either not working at all or barely working as it was hot. We repaired to the same pub as the day before to cool off, and then went back about an hour before closing to hit the vendor stands for discounts.

 

I agree that you will want to be there at least two days.One year I only went for Saturday and regretted it because there was so much to see and do. I went all four days last year and I am going for all four days in Anaheim. One thing to be mindful of is that a lot of what makes Celebration fun happens outside of the convention center. For example I wouldn't be surprised if there is some big late-night party at Disneyland in 2015.

 

Saturday is the busiest but also tends to be the grandest. I would say you should also pick Friday (if you can) or Sunday. 2 days is better than 1 for sure

If the past is any indication then there will be.

 

If possible, go for the entire 4 days. Even if you attend every day, you'll still wish you had more time there.

 

I ended up getting the 4-day ticket because it wasn't that much more than getting 2 days. So I have to option to go for as much as I want, but I'm pretty sure I will go for all 4 days.

 

Went to celebration 5 with my son in Florida. We went for all the days. There was a lot to do. Went to the WDW thing they had and that was awesome. Concert and stage thing with fireworks rocked. I can imagine that Disney is really going to bring it now that they own the license.

 

The only convention experience I have is with San Diego Comic Con. This year's Comic Con is the first time I bought a 4-day pass. I've only bought Friday and Saturday in the past due to the scheduled events. I also only bought Friday and Saturday tickets to the SW Celebration. I did this based on my own research from others that have gone. Although, now I'm wishing I had bought for all 4 days!

 

So I've never been to a convention of any kind, and my Star Wars fandom is pretty confined to the films. Is Celebration for me? I mean, I love the idea of a bunch of Star Wars fans getting together the year of the new film, but what's really in it for someone who's not delved terribly far into the EU, doesn't do cosplay or costumes, etc., etc.

 

I went to the first Celebration Europe here in London and there was easily enough to keep a fan happy. Dealers' tables, autographs, panels (Mark Hamill was great!) and they had film showings going on in the evening. You might not want to do all the days - one might do you. Just be aware that not all panels, guests, etc are there on all of the days.

 

At the end of the day, the difference in cost between a one-day pass and a three-day isn't that much, and if I'm going to fly out to Anaheim from NYC, might as well get passes for all three days so I'm not confined to one day's schedule.

 

True. My friend and I met up with some people from the Collecting forum who were down from Scotland for the weekend. We ended up going to a nearby pub for a few hours to relax. Also there were some pretty good deals at the dealer tables for about the last hour or two on the last day. Dealers were pricing stuff down that they didn't want to pack. I got a couple of things that were otherwise too expensive.
And if you are into the art (comics, etc) some of the artists were at CE. Tsuneo Sanda was there. I love his Fett art but it's too expensive. Dave Dorman was also there and autographed my copy of Star Wars: The Art of Dave Dorman. He even drew a small Boba Fett next to his signature.

 

Simply put: if you enjoy Star Wars in any capacity, you'll enjoy Celebration.

 

Aside from tickets. How much money should a person take while inside the Celebration?

 

Money! UNLIMITED MONEY!

I know a lot of the venues here have ATMs inside. The one for Celebration in London did. However the lines can be lengthy for those.

 

Convention food is expensive, so plan on $15 per meal (less if you eat a late dinner outside the convention center at local fast food joints), plus the cost of autograph tickets (if you're into that) and whatever you can afford for general spending cash. At CVI, I took $300 cash for general purchases and had about $100 left over, though I don't do autographs and tend to be pretty frugal. I used a credit card for meals, and only meals, so I wouldn't be left having to debate between buying "that cool thing that I just have to have" or buying lunch.
