I don't see recasting being a issue. The character wears a mask and make up. Heck get Doug Jones or someone in a similar build and there ya go.

    That would be an issue
if multiple Red Skulls weren't canon.

Yeah when he's in Red Skull form you could barely tell it was Weaving anyways.

They've already recast Rhodey and Bruce Banner. There's no reason they can't recast Red Skull.

    That was more a reverse-recasting!

Considering the myriad changes and reincarnations the character has gone through, of course you can easily recast the Red Skull. The whole trip through the Tesseract/Bifrost could lead to many possibilities. Maybe he'll eventually resurface as a minion to Thanos, who rescued him from the void just as he did with Loki.

What about that time the Red Skull's consciousness inhabited a clone of Steve Rogers? Wasn't he behind the whole "Cap got fired" story arc?

Again, look at Brubaker and Epting's run on Captain America:

Aleksander Lukin, who had his fingers in a few pies, including SHIELD, was forced to play host for the Red Skull's consciousness through hypnotic programming, and eventually Dr. Faustus or someone flat-out let the Red Skull's consciousness take over. It's just a hunch, but maybe Robert Redford's going to set up something like that.

EDIT: Jedi Merkurian - that's from the Rebirth arc that TWS is heavily inspired by. The new Cap and Sharon Carter had to race to stop the Red Skull, it was pretty solid and was the culmination of the above spoilers, if memory serves.

Jaysis, Peng...I sure hope you didn't accidentally spoil TWS "twist" with that, if that's indeed what they're going for. :p

As I said in the the Cap thread, at the risk of it being a Winter Soldier re-tread, but I would love to see a Cap movie featuring the Super-Patriot/U.S. Agent. Especially with my abovementioned post of mine about how the Red Skull was behind the whole thing in order to discredit the name of Captain America.

Why doesn't Hugo Weaving want to reprise? He doesn't really have much else to do, and he looked like he was having fun in the role.

Ha Mr. Weaving and what projects would those be? Cloud Atlas? Because that was a huge hit obviously.

    Did it?
I didn't think Weaving was very good, but it's not that hard to get someone else to do the role since with makeup you wouldn't notice the difference very much.

It was interesting, though. Let's not judge a movie's worth solely on how much it makes in the cinema.

Yeah but that's more of a bit role if anything.
