Joffrey doesn't live by the rules of the North. Ned and his kids do.

Indeed, indeed. That logic destroys the very notion of delegated authority. It would be impossible to have government. The principle is not transferable at all.

IIRC, they were able to do that because most of the book was already done, edited, and typeset well before he turned in the final remaining chapters. Perhaps he'll do the same with WOW.

So evidently Roose will be present at the Purple Wedding in season 4. I can just imagine him going up to Sansa and saying "My lady, I was with your mother and brother just before they died. They were very brave in the end." That would be so cold and just perfect for McElhatton's voice.

I forgot about that. You're right. Hes probably doing the same now though because they know hes slow so they want to reduce publication time.

And woah woah, Roose is gonna be at the wedding?

I think it makes sense, because book Roose is absent post-Red Wedding until ADWD, so it's good to give McElhatton something to do. And they can have him be the one to escort the Fake Arya north. And I can't see them passing up the opportunity to put Roose and Tywin in the same scene together.

He doesn't do anything in the books between the RW and linking up with Ramsay at Moat Cailin anyway, so whatever. The only issue is the whole "King's Landing is a bit far from the Neck and a long way to march an army" thing, but maybe Littlefinger managed to mass produce the rocket-propelled cart.

True true except if I recall hes making his way back to the North via Moat Cailin.

And this pretty much destroys the travelogue of AFFC and ADWD in the TV show dont you think?

It destroys the logic of it (and the showrunners obviously don't care), but we have to get Brienne's travelogue if only because she'd have nothing to do otherwise. It's also probably the biggest, most unsubtle demonstration of the story's themes of anything in the books, Septon Meribald's speech about "broken men" in particular.

And unlike seemingly a lot of people I actually enjoyed Tyrion's journey, especially bits of information about his ethnic origin (Andalos) and the Stone Men.

I hope Brienne's travelogue is streamlined, though. The first half of it is just "Maidenpool...Crackclaw Point...okay, back to Maidenpool, yay!" I still think Nimble Dick will be a part of the journey, but I heard a rumor that Brienne will actually head towards the Vale at some point this season, so they may just cut the Crackclaw Point part out entirely. They may also have Arya and the Hound going in the same direction, so maybe they'll meet up but Brienne won't recognize Arya for who she is.

Oh, I forgot that she met Randyll Tarly. That has to happen in the show.

Makes me wonder if they'll have Sansa show up in the Vale or maybe it'll be a surprise if/when Brienne gets there. That was one thing in the books I didnt like, we already knew where Sansa was so it was kind of like...ok..?

Who the F isn't going to be at the PW? Jaime, Brienne, Roose Bolton. A whole mess of people standing around not seeing an "amethyst" slipped into a goblet of wine.

I guess that will make the "Who actually killed Joffrey?" mystery even more mysterious. Keeping the identity of the murderer secret until after Tyrion's trial would make for good television, methinks. Keep the audience guessing as to whether Tyrion is or isn't guilty.

Unlike Roose Bolton, Jamie and Brienne don't need things to do and they could have easily shown up after the PW in the show. I don't get that change.

And does Jaime arriving early mean we won't get the "Jaime-having-sex-with-period-Cersei-over-Joffrey's-corpse" scene?

Jaime will just have to...arrive early with Cersei.

Well, Joffrey will still have a corpse, Cersei will still need "comforting". OTOH, I can't see the show shying away from one of the more salacious sex scenes in the books. OTOH, it's one thing to read it and quite another to see it. I suspect it'll be toned down a bit, but that's just a hunch.

DarthGuy - I really don't get the change either, and for me anyway, it sets up a whole new set of problems that I don't care for, namely that Sansa won't be missing before Brienne gets to KL.

Well, Brienne could be in a cell up until after the PW, so maybe she won't have an opportunity to interact with Sansa.

I'm willing to reserve judgment on the showrunners having Roose attend the Purple Wedding, if simply because McElhatton is an excellent Lord of the Dreadfort.

Makes me wonder what they're going to have Ramsay and his new gimp do for a few seasons, though.

Probably at the end of the PW they can come to Moat Cailin and begin that story.

Perhaps Roose himself will escort fArya north. That will give Ramsay something to do.
