ST Who's The Baddie?

Not for Episode VII, but maybe for the opening of Episode VIII have the Mandalorians stage a massive assault somewhere, like on the Galactic senate or on the rebuilt Jedi temple, sort of like the attack on Hoth in ESB or the attack on Coruscant in ROTS.

 

I love everything about this post.

And yet, I like to entertain visions of Luke and Han speaking on behalf of the New Republic and beseeching an old, battle-scarred Boba (or his successor as Mand'alor) for the assistance of the Mandos in facing the new threat.

*Sigh* Aren't you guys sick of Mandalorians by now?

 

We've only seen 2 mandolorians for like 10 minutes each in the 6 films.

I'm more sick of the "let's have another young protagonist that has to choose between the light and dark side." We already have 6 movies about this, we do not need 3 more.

In case anyone's wondering, my avatar is the ruthless former Death Watch leader, Tor Vizsla, a prime example of an "evil Mandalorian" that I'd like to see show up in the ST. He was only defeated by Jango Fett in open combat, but nearly killed the galaxy's best bounty hunter as well.

I would also be open to Trebor Sabreon 's suggestion that there be good Mandalorians, the True Mandalorian clans led by the new Mand'alor, be it Boba Fett if they stick with the EU, or someone else. Perhaps even an unlikely (or temporary) alliance with the Jedi or the Republic. Anything to see them onscreen!

Yep, but it's worth noting that those two Mandalorians show up in half of the films, and always the second part of the trilogy. So the idea of Mandalorians showing up in Episode VIII could easily hold water...

At the very least, hopefully there will be a Mandalorian bounty hunter or two, to keep it consistent with the rest of the saga (Jango in the PT and Boba in the OT). Although I'd prefer to see Mandalorians in their full glory as part of their unified warrior culture, with multiple factions if need be (like Death Watch), since there seems to be a trope in SW saying that all prominent Mandalorians are bounty hunters (see Shae Vizla in TOR).

 

Technically, Boba and Jango aren't Mandalorians, right? So we've really only seen the armor. Or does the EU say Jango is from Mandalore?

 

Jango is from Concord Dawn in the EU.

 

What about Jasper Mareel?

 

Jasper Mareel sounds like a butler.

I really wanted a SW character to go by the name of Jasper.

 

I know you said "technically," but one does not need to be from Mandalore to be Mandalorian. They are absolutely regarded as Mandalorian by the Mandalorians themselves (save for one disavowal by the New Mandalorian Prime Minister Almec - and he had a big political motivation behind his comment).

 

Concord Dawn's at least in Mandalore's sector, and according to Wookieepedia genetic markers specific to the natives of Concord Dawn were present throughout the Mandalorian populace. That's probably close enough.

 

Good to know, thanks. Still, the Mandos we've seen so far are basically detached from Mandalorian culture. As bounty hunters, they're essentially out for themselves, not their culture. I'd be more interested in seeing the latter kind of Mando, one that is representing their cultural values in opposition to the Jedi or Republic (hopefully).
