    Will R2D2 be dirty and grimy like..or clean and shiny (presumably because she's ensconced in the Coruscant or wherever the headquarters/capital is...). Yes, R2D2 is a girl. :p

    An article recently came up on starwars7news.com from back in July by Arnd Riedel and Oliver Steeples--2 confirmed Creature Effects team members for Episode 7--wherein they talk about an R2 unit that'd been made for Celebration Europe. Anyway, the general idea is that what is shown/described in the article could be a sign of things to come with the R2 being built for VII. Shown also, is a blueprint of sorts of R2, which I thought was a nifty bonus.

    If this is indeed the basic fundamentals behind the future-tech R2 we're to see in the upcoming VII, then I'm quite grateful thus far as R2 doesn't seem to have undergone any drastic changes.

    I want the first shot of R2 to be Luke fiddling with Artoo's jetpacks and closing it shut and saying. "There! Fixed! Only been about half a century, buddy. Sorry about that."

    For the question of whether R2's a boy or girl, he's definitely a boy. I mean there's a reason Seth McFarlene made Cleveland R2-D2. :p
