The nice thing about first world problems is that sometimes, they disappear, never to be heard from again.

Such as those lonely, lonely hours between midnight and 7 am, when every TV station you get has gone off the air, and abandoned you to the cold embrace of a test pattern.

The heartbreak of not being chosen during the competition for affection known as "Call Waiting."

The anxiety of discovering that your favorite mixtape has developed a twist deep inside, and emergency surgery with tweezers and a ball point pen is necessary.

This thread is dedicated to these forgotten crises. Weep if you are so moved.

The frustration of blowing on a game cartridge over, and over, and over again, only to be met by pink and white blocks of pixels scattered around an otherwise blank screen.

What was the setting where the tape would run out really fast? I hated that.

The picture quality was slightly better, though. :p

Lugging around a portable CD player, and having also to have a CD case in tow for when I wanted to listen to music on the go. Switching CD's on the bus, but especially at a bus stop, was terribly annoying.

The big-ass box of CDs I used to haul around in my car when I didn't have satellite radio.

Remembering the command prompts to run a game on a Commodore 64.

The phone ringing and getting all excited in the hope that it was "him," but it's a telemarketer.

I know of a story from my company back in the 80s where an engineer took out a high powered model home for the night for testing and he ran out of gas on the highway. He got the last eight numbers of the vin number and had to walk five miles to the nearest exit. When he got there he made the call on the pay phone and the emergency hotline wouldn't give him a tow or help unless he had all seventeen numbers of the vin. We use the last 8 for identification purposes. Even to this day.
Not sure how it ended up but afterwards a company memo went around stating you need all 17 numbers of the vin.

Yeah, that was Standard Play. And then there was Extended/Long Play, which would make it a last a while but everything was crappy. And then there was the compromise setting, Standard Long Play.

    ....I recorded a lot of programs. :p
