I like that by the 1800s, they're still referring to Iran as Ajamistan (ajam, being an Arabic word for someone who doesn't understand the language, or illiterate, because at the time of the Muslim conquests, Persians were characterized by that they didn't understand Arabic).

Also fun to see that at this point in time, what we now know as Australia is still known as New Holland. But curiously "Kenya" is on the opposite side of Africa on this map, on the Ivory Coast. Is there a historical reason for this, or just an error? Does anyone know?

 

I just don't rely on maps. I look to the stars.

Current snow depth in the U.S.:

 

Incorrect for both Czech Republic and Slovakia. We get both - St. Nicholas (Mikuláš) brings small presents (usually sweets and fruit) on St. Nicholas day - 6th December (well, on the eve of his feast day, so 5th December evening). And on Christmas Eve we get presents from Baby Jesus (Ježíšek in Czech Republic, Ježiško in Slovakia).
