JCC [Senate?] Do you like serious discussion, but not having to go to another subforum for it?

The proposal is simple; merge Senate back in to Community. Drop the Senate's old rules. Make new guidelines for insertion into broader community rules.

Senate becomes the "serious" discussion tag. The only rules, outside the TOS, is that you stay on topic. You don't derail or post lulzy stuff. But we get the ability to talk about serious topics without people posting cat pictures, Dr Who music videos ), or people expecting every post has to be a 2,000 word essay with footnotes.

So basically, Rogue Ten can't post there, like, ever. But an unsubstantiated one liner like "I can't believe the Kenyan Muslim Barack Obama wants America to be socialist" can be posted without a mod telling you off. The community may savage you for being an idiot, but mod's won't.

The Senate, in a nutshell, comes down off its high horse and meets Community half way under the chocolate fountain of compromise.

I would be for this if I wasn't currently writing a film-noir thriller set in the JCC that relies fairly heavily, as a plot point, on the Senate being split off from the JCC.

Senate in its current form of frozen in a single moment in time, lost in another universe, with nothing but hope, suits me just fine.

OK, let's be clear.

There's Old Senate, which existed like 10 years ago and hasn't changed a bit since then. That's not what I am proposing.

I'm proposing New Senate, where the term Senate now means "serious topic discussion". Not essays, four posts a month, and faux-elitism.

The gun control thread in JC is a perfect example of what a New Senate discussion looks like.

What if we want to call it Classic Senate because everyone hated New Senate and it was a major blunder, but then actually turned out well because it increased Classic Senate's popularity?

So, we'd be trying to keep the Senate forum as it is separate, but also using Senate as a tag in here for a level between the JCC as it is and the Senate as a separate forum? Or are you proposing doing away with "Old Senate" as it stands entirely?
