JCC What was appointment television for you when you got a rare day off from school?

I was scrolling through that thread about the new Godzilla film and saw the old animated series referenced; it reminded me how much I absolutely loved that show, but only inasmuch as I actually could love it. It aired during the early afternoon hours when I was in elementary school and I very rarely had a chance to actually watch it.

What sorts of things were appointment television for you when you got a rare day off from school in your youth? The Price is Right was the mainstay for me.

The $Price is Right. Obviously. Anyone who didn't watch that when they were home sick is evil.

For some reason, the local Fox station in my area aired The Super Mario Bros. Super Show at 9:30 in the morning when it was on, so during the school year I could only watch it on snow or sick days.

Also, the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon came on just as I had to go to the bus stop and I was only ever able to watch the first 5-10 minutes or so of an given episode, but on sick or snow days I got to watch the whole thing.

Best memory involving school delays: One time when I was in high school, school was delayed for a couple hours due to fog, so I used that time to play Super Empire Strikes Back on the Super Nintendo.

    "COME ON DOWN!"

Yeah, I watched The Price is Right too, and Family Feud. And right now I can't remember the name of that weird dude who hosted it then, the one who kissed all the women.

Re-runs of Johnny Quest. This was an action/adventure cartoon filled with graphic animated deaths: murders, stabbings, smashings,
burnings, etc., and the never-ending use of light and heavy weapons of every caliber, along with swords, spears, axes, lasers and
high explosives -- all of it happening to a swing/jazz music score. People wouldn't let their kids watch this show, along with The 3 Stooges
re-runs, because of all the violence. Compared to the movies and games today, it all seems pretty tame.
