Amph "Jupiter Ascending," upcoming Wachowskis movie

So I noticed that the trailer for the upcoming movie by the Wachowski siblings was released recently. I really enjoy the Wachowskis' stuff (for the most part), so I'm looking forward to this. Also, appears to be some kind of space opera movie--which is a genre that seems to be popular around here, or so I've been told, so you might be interested as well.



Thoughts?

 

I posted on my FB wall this trailer and that I would defend Cloud Atlas and Speed Racer to the death, so I'm pretty damned excited for this.

 

I've very much enjoyed all movies by Wachowski Starship so far. And it's nice to see my city featured outwardly. I'll be at the cinema for this.

 

Cloud Atlas wasn't completely awful, just hopelessly inadequate relative to the novel.

 

It looks great. I am interested in this idea about Earth being a part of an industry where Earth does not know it.

 

Damn straight. Cloud Atlas is one of my favorite movies from the last 10 years or so.

It was very different in places, sure--and considerably more streamlined. I don't think the book could have fit in a 3-hour film though. But I thought overall it was a brilliant adaptation (and so does David Mitchell himself--he's on the special features on the BD).

 

These two are idiots and their newest movie will probably be more of the same.

 

There are things you can do with a novel that you simply can't do with a graphic/filmic medium and have it work.

Having not read the book, I can't speak to whatever deficiencies you think the film may have, but the film made me cry and all of the complaints about all of the supposed "racism" because of the various people being made to look different (even if you sometimes went cross-race or cross-gender) misses the point of the film utterly.

 

Read the book! It's fantastic. I can't wait for The Bone Clocks.

I'm looking forward to Jupiter Ascending. Definitely has a look and feel similar to Cloud Atlas.

I'll throw in a comment in defense of Speed Racer, probably one of the few real Family movies of the past decade. Definitely excited for this.

it looks like they took the futurey part of crowd atras and made that into a full moobie. i just do not know. i feel like i'm growing tired of their pup. and i don't really like to watch chad taters or whatever his name is. chamum titus.

Saw the trailer in front of Desolation of Smaug with the trailers for Interstellar, The Winter Soldier, Amazing Spider Man 2. Looks like a interesting movie, even if I have no clue what the plot is about

I've never quite forgiven the Wachowskis for the mess they made out of The Matrix sequels, and never bothered with Speed Racer. But I loved Cloud Atlas despite myself and this new flick looks...interesting, at the very least. I do hope that this doesn't disappoint.

 

I really loved Cloud Atlas and am very much looking forward to this one. I just hope it's not 4 hours long.

I'm not a literary purist. I've read all but one of the Martin books and hate them even more than the tv show. I'm all for good adaptations that take liberties with the literary text for sound cinematic reasons. But the Cloud Atlas movie was a mess.

 

It looks like an over the top twisted version of The Fifth Element.
