So I saw Desolation Of Smaug some hours ago and it was great; I went in without setting my expectations bar too high and I had a really fun time watching it (you bet I'm kooking forward to part three next year).

(But yeah, anakinfan would definitely go into cardiac arrest during the Mirkwood spiders scene; definitely beats the Shelob sequences in Return Of The King when it comes to the creep factor).

 

Maybe something like the episode of Ducktales when they got shrunk by the Microducks from outerspace and Webby ended up in the spider web would be more anakinfan's tolerance level for spiders. =b

 

We have "hobo" spiders in the American northwest (not sure how big their range is). Everyone kept telling me that they have the same kind of necrotic venom that brown recluse spiders do, while everything that I've read, including Orkin's website, insists that this is a myth. On Thanksgiving I went to a coworker's house, had a little too much to drink and wanted to see if I could put that myth to rest when I found a hobo spider. No amount of provoking that sucker could get it to bite me.

So I guess I couldn't confirm anything except that it must take A LOT to get bitten, which is kind of reassuring.

That also was not something I think I could ever repeat sober.

I would imagine you also get Brazillian Wandering Spiders (I think their range extends into Central America). They are the most dangerous spider species.

Yeah, looks too skinny. Probably for the best since I prodded him out of the window with a stick.

 

All this spider talk makes this little scene from Alien: Resurrection come to my mind for some reason:

 

Wow I didn't see that one before. Apparently the Alien franchise had to upgrade their monster budget for that scene.

 

This film was the biggest disappointment ever. For anyone that complains about the prequel trilogy after the original trilogy, it doesn't compare to Alien: Resurrection following up the first three alien films... It was still cheesy fun to some extent, but I can't sit down an watch this film and think that it actually has any kind of continuity with Alien 3 (just like I can't see TCW and the PT as occupying the same universe).

 

I heard others say that subplot was, er,... not handled well. Guess I have to see it myself.
