JCC Question About U.S. "Highlander" Steelbook Blu-Ray

Does anyone know the details for Best Buy's steelbook Blu-Ray released on November 24th? The current American disc has a really crappy transfer, and I'm hoping this new edition is a port of the much better UK release.

Yes, that's the page for the Optimum UK release; what I want to know is if the one at this link is an American port, or just a terrible repack for us "dumb Yankees".

The US release is superior in every way.

 

(1) There are still DVDs?
(2) People still buy them?

 

Blu-rays aren't DVD's the same way DVD's aren't CD's. They're all optical discs of the same physical size (for easier backward compatibility, I think) but they're not the same thing. Blu-rays have vastly superior video and audio quality compared to anything you can stream or download over the internet (because uploading or downloading an entire BD without compressing it more would be insane). If you actually like a film or television program, Blu-ray is by far the best way to watch it at home. That's why people "still" buy them. And they can be really cheap if you're patient and wait for sales.

Are you talking about this one? It got a medium rating for video quality in the Blu-Ray.Com review, which is why I haven't grabbed it.

I'm not aware of one like that in the States, just the standard cover and the recent steelbook. The original "Highlander" is one of my faves, but I didn't want to settle for a poorly-done release or spend tons to import from the UK. That's why I want to know the details about the Best Buy steelbook.

Actually, I didn't start posting regularly here until a few days ago. I started accounts at several forums a few years back, then forgot about most of them.

 

Sad news, folks: the Best Buy steelbook is just a repackaging of the 2010 U.S. release. I was able to tell by the menu, which only includes Russell Mulcahy's commentary and a few deleted scenes without audio. By contrast, the UK version included a new interview with Christopher Lambert, plus a 3-part documentary.
