    >Investigate windy passage

You examine the windy passage once again:

    Mysterious Passage
The three of you originally entered the passage through a chasm wall. You’re now halfway between that chasm and the exit you just retreated from. The latter appeared to lead out onto a mountainous path with a metallic walkway. The near-complete darkness makes it difficult to learn much else.

A fierce wind whips up from behind and blasts into your group. You are all pushed ahead a few feet towards the chasm opening. When the breeze subsides, you can hear indistinct stormtrooper chatter from behind. The group of three dozen troopers that you fled away from is probably following you.

Your recent attempt to gauge the mysteries of the passage goes unfulfilled.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
    STAR WARS
    Text Adventure 1: Escape
It is a period of relative peace in the galaxy...

A Jedi Knight with partial amnesia sits cross-legged on the cold, durasteel floor of his prison cell. He faces the northern wall, which is actually an active ray shield. The other three walls are made of solid durasteel. The only item in the cell is a crude, wooden chair in the southwest corner.

Amongst the cool holding cell, the Jedi stands. At first, he feels a bit dizzy, but the sensation quickly subsides. Noticing his robes, the knight immediately realizes that he’s a Jedi. However, confusion quickly returns, for he has no recollection of his name.

Sitting on the surface of the cell again, he experiences an uncomfortable chill. This motivates him to get up again and approach the crude chair. Alone with his jumbled thoughts, he sits upon the wooden seat in the corner.

The distraught Jedi Knight decides to take note of his inventory. Thoughts of escape already bombard his psyche. He is wearing standard Jedi attire. Specifically, he dons brown flowing robes and boots of a similar color. Around his waist is a utility belt. An intricate lightsaber hilt is clasped to it.

His eyes widen as he notices the saber. He ignites the weapon without much thought. For unknown reasons, he is groggy. With a snap-hiss, an emerald blade crackles into existence. The dangerous energy sword grazes his leg, for the hilt remains attached to his belt.

”Oops!” he exclaims, as the stinging blade touches his skin after disintegrating a hole in his robe. No one hears his reverberating exclamation in the lonely cell. Logically, he unclasps the hilt and moves the blade away from his appendage.

The Jedi Knight holds up his saber. It hums, soothingly. His left leg throbs from the recent blunder with the weapon and he feels a bit weaker.

Again, thoughts strike him rapidly, evolving into irrational considerations. He wants to strike the chair with his blade regardless of the fact that he is sitting upon it. However, just before swinging the emerald saber, he comes to his senses.

The Jedi stands in order to hack away at the wooden chair with his lightsaber. Soon, two halves of chair fall to the floor, and the unknown prisoner is quite content with his display of power…

    Just kidding. :p
No way am I going to retell the whole story. :)

Well, it's way too dark to grab Zan by the shoulders and look squarely in his eye, but he hears your wonderful comment.

"Gee, thanks, Master Johnson." He sighs again.

You just know the Zabrak rolled his eyes at you.

Well played. You don the electrobinoculars and look around the passage.

    Mysterious Passage (through electrobinoculars)
Directly ahead of you is the aperture leading to the chasm. Arfour looks around as well, and you notice Zan sticking his tongue out at you.

With the illumination provided, you notice the sides of the passage are distorted, creating several crevices. There are only two offshoots that you can fit through. One leads north, and the other south. You adjust the binos for a better view. The northern crevice leads to a wall with a ladder attached to it. The ladder leads upwards. The southern crevice leads to an eastward bend. That's as far as you can see.

Two dozen stormtroopers approach you from the other end of the passage. They can't see you yet, but they advance. One of them is missing his pants. Behind them is another exit, which leads to a mountainous path and metallic walkway.

You have finally gauged the mysteries of the passage.

Your question: What happened to the lightsaber?

A long time ago on a roof far, far away...

You drop the useless E-11. (All that time and you guys never loaded it with a plasma cartridge!)

"I plead insanity." You look down. Then, you dramatically fall to your knees and muster up some tears. "Please! You have to forgive me!"

The lieutenant is not amused. "Your SABER."

"I miss Zan!" you yell accompanied by more sobbing. "It's my fault! I let them drag him away! Zan! I miss you!"

Your saber is already deactivated. You hold it out for the lieutenant.

"Pathetic," the imperial taunts. "Troopers... focus on his head." He scoffs again. "Nice try, but I'm afraid you'll have to THROW your saber away."

The trio of stormies board the shuttle, while the other 19 finally reach the roof. They line up behind you.

You toss the saber hilt on the floor near the lieutenant. "Now tell me where you took Zan."

The imperial gives you a peculiar look. "Zan? If you're referring to that hideous Zabrak, he's back in his holding cell where he belongs!" A terrible smile forms on his face. "As for you... well, we have different plans for you."

Keeping your hands up, you inquire again. "What have you done with R4?"

The lieutenant scoffs again. "An astromech? We don't tolerate astromechs. It's probably a pile of scrap by now."

You stare at the imperial intently and attempt to control your anger. "Take me with the girl."

A sneer comes your way. "Like I said, we have other plans for you." He addresses the nineteen from his platoon. "Troopers, escort our new acquisition to his new home."

    19 + 8 = 27 stormtroopers aiming at your head. Don't do anything foolish. (That's free advice.)

The imperial shuttle takes off, its realspace engines whirring with power.

"Move it," a trooper tells you with his blaster rifle against your back. He pushes you towards the southeast corner of the roof...

After that, you tracked the lieutenant in order to reclaim your saber, but pressing matters took you elsewhere. You haven't seen your lightsaber since.

Zan smirks as you invade his personal space in order to whisper. "Please, Master Johnson! Give me some space." He tries to push you away, but you whisper to him nonetheless.

"When in doubt... head north up the mysterious ladder into mystery!" Satisfied that your wisdom was shared, you wait for a response. None comes. However, Arfour begins to warble and bleep loudly, trying to get your attention.

Zan Sey quiets the droid by patting his dome. "Shhh! Quiet, Arfour. What is it?"

The astromech repeats his phrase, this time softly.

"Hmmm," Zan says. "Arfour claims that the ladder obviously leads up to the Imperial Hangar Bay we escaped from earlier." The Zabrak places his hand on his chin. "Katarn might still be up there, as well as the imp with your lightsaber."

You sneak north through the passage offshoot. Zan and Arfour follow, just before the stormtroopers reach their location. The dim troopers walk right by the offshoot and continue to the chasm. "Well, what do ya know? They marched right by us!" Zan explains. "We can reach that mountainous path now, and get the heck out of here." Arfour whistles.

"Oh no," Zan mutters. He notices that you've grabbed the lowest rung on the ladder. Looking up, you realize how high the ladder goes. You remember that the turbolift traveled many levels before bringing you here. "Master Johnson! No! Let go." You begin to ascend, regardless of Zan's protest. "Are you crazy?" He goes on. "We have a chance to escape! You're gonna march right back into that imp-infested hangar?" Arfour bleeps at the argument.

With one hand securely gripping a rung, you manage to load a plasma cartridge into the E-11 blaster rifle.

"No, master! Don't do it." Zan paces at the bottom of the ladder. Arfour ignites his rockets and begins to ascend as well.

"My dear Zan," you start. "I'm telling the truth." Climbing again, you continue. "When in doubt head north up the mysterious ladder into mystery." Due to your amnesia, you actually have no idea if anyone has ever told you that.

    Zan pouts. "You're impossible!"

While ascending, you try to remember more wisdom from the past, but due to the amnesia you seemingly can only remember events from your current adventure.

You've already climbed 35 feet. Arfour catches up and hovers there next to you.

About halfway up the ladder (70 feet), you realize that Zan can't even see you. It's too dark, and you have the electrobinoculars. You wave happily anyway. Arfour loyally follows with his thrusters.

Looking up when you reach 80 feet, your electrobinos reveal that the ladder leads to a circular durasteel trapdoor in the cavernous ceiling. There's a keycard interface protruding out of the trapdoor. A wheel for manual turning is also attached to the durasteel.

You ascend for another ten standard minutes.

Reaching the top (140 feet), you finally look down to the floor. Adjusting your binos for magnification, you notice that Zan is gone. The passage offshoot is now empty. Oddly, the only sound you can hear is the thrusting of Arfour's rocket boosters.

You haven't entered the hangar yet, so you can't distract any troopers. However, even though the durasteel door stands in your way, you can sense your lightsaber somewhere above. You also sense the presence of thirty-six sentient beings.

    Your electrobinoculars dim significantly.

There, amongst the soon-to-be darkness, you clutch the top rung of the ladder with one hand. With the other, you motion towards the ceiling and concentrate.

You feel a strong connection between your own essence and the lightsaber, but you are unable to cause ignition. Your force ability of advanced telekinesis needs to be at a much higher level for such an intricate maneuver to work. Let's check the stats:

    Known Abilities-
    FORCE ABILITIES:

    2. Sneak: neutral
    3. Bend: neutral
    4. Fear: dark

    10. Shield: light
    11. Saber Throw: neutral (Range: 2)
    12. Mind Trick: neutral

    OTHER ABILITIES:
    1. Boost Strength (Hatred)
    2. Boost Sight (Rage)
    3. Commando Roll
    4. Backflip

You're only at level 1. Besides, you would need a wide range of force sight for the saber to traverse that distance. Boosting sight is a possibility, but it might prove to be an unwise decision considering the next paragraph.

You suddenly feel dizzy. Arfour warbles as you drop the E-11 blaster rifle. It ricochets off the cavern walls, eventually clattering against the passage floor 140 feet below. You tighten your grip on the topmost rung as you begin to sway. Your other hand is required to prevent you from falling. An odd, demented smirk forms across your face, regardless of the fact that you feel nauseated. Your eyes flutter closed, and your legs begin to shake. You don't comprehend what's happening, as your soul shivers.

Your cackling and proclamation just add to the unpleasant sensations that you're experiencing. You falter, losing your grip (both physically and mentally). Your hands skim each rung as you fall about ten feet. Luckily, you grab a rung and the dizziness subsides. You shake your head and attempt to regain control. Noticing that you dropped the bacta canister, you exhale slowly. Arfour beeps his concern for you. The electrobinoculars dim again.

As you center your focus upon the dark side, your eyes flutter closed once again. Arfour has started to beep wildly, as if he doesn't recognize you. You tap into your hatred and rage, boosting your abilities.
    +1 Strength / +1 Sight

Upon opening your fluttering eyelids, you notice that your electrobinoculars have run out of charge. The cavernous tunnel is now pitch black. You don't even see Arfour's thrusters, so you assume that he descended back to the passage offshoot below. Nevertheless, you can sense your surroundings perfectly, thanks to force sight.

You climb back down in a mere 6 standard minutes. There's no need for force sneak here. No one is around. The dimmest of light trickles in from the mysterious passage.
E-11 blaster rifle & bacta canister: Taken

As you place your hand on the bottom rung to climb back up, something tugs at your psyche. You recall something Zan said:
"We have a chance to escape! You're gonna march right back into that imp-infested hangar?"
You know that the mountainous path is just around the bend. You look down for a moment, but the hate is swelling. It wins, and you start to climb back up.

You've only reached 12 feet when Zan Sey reappears from the mysterious passage. "Master Johnson. You came back." Then, he stops, and backtracks a few steps towards the passage. He seems unsure of himself. "What... what happened to your eyes?" he sputters.

'How can he see my eyes?' you question to yourself. 'I'm still wearing the binos.'

Zan retreats, leaving you to marinate in the dark side. After you ascend another 10 feet, Arfour comes rushing into the area again. He seems to be pleading with you in astromech. You ignore the droid and climb. Another whistle roughly translating to 'please' sounds from below, but you're already nearing the top again.

Due to your enhanced strength, the durasteel wheel does not pose a problem. You turn the wheel. It shrieks causing you to place a hand on your forehead. You shake your head. 'What's wrong with me?' The hatch opens with a hissing sound, and light douses the tunnel. You immediately use force distract and peer through the circular hatchway. Perfect. No need for force sneak here. You're directly beneath a parked Jedi starfighter. Rising another inch, you notice dozens of stormtroopers scurrying around the expansive hangar. You're well hidden, for the time being. Climbing out of the hatchway might give you away though.

You prepare to force pull your lightsaber, but its location has changed. Unable to pinpoint it at the moment, you look around the hangar. You count thirty-six troopers and twelve TIEs parked upon the durasteel surface.

Arfour's bleeping starts up again from the depths of the tunnel.

You climb out of the hatchway and hide behind the starfighter's landing gear. There is an isolated stormtrooper nearby. He's in the southwest corner of the expansive bay, guarding a TIE fighter. Relying upon the force, you attempt to sneak over to that area.

A skill total of 3 is required for you to get there undetected.
    STEALTH (1) + LUCK (1) = 2
    You have failed.
Remember, you can always check your skill stats before performing such a maneuver.
One of the thirty-six scurrying troopers notices you nearing the corner. He approaches:

Dressed as an imperial officer, you hope the guise does the trick. You intentionally slow your pace, and walk like a snooty imp.

"Halt," the trooper commands as he reaches your locale. "No officers are scheduled for hangar duty until after the drill." He looks at you closely and tilts his head in a curious manner. "Who are you?"

You raise your hand and concentrate on the force. Your legs begin to shiver as you place a thought within the trooper's mind. 'You will find my lightsaber.'

A skill total of 5 is required for the mind trick to work.
    INFLUENCE (5) + LUCK (1) = 6
    Success.
The stormtrooper's head tilts back to its original position. "I will find your lightsaber." He wanders off towards the center of the hangar, slowly.
You are a few steps from the southwest corner. The trooper guarding the TIE hasn't noticed you yet.

Looking over to the starfighter that you just left, you spot Arfour's dome protruding from the hatchway. It swivels as he searches for you.

Hopefully, he doesn't alert more troopers to your presence.

Once again, you feel strange. Your eyelids flutter closed as your mouth contorts into a sinister, celebratory smirk. You are quite satisfied with your successful attempt at the mind trick. After marinating in the moment for a few seconds as if frozen, you shake your head and look over at Arfour. 'Was I in a trance?' you question yourself.

Since you only made it halfway to the southwest corner, you only need a skill total of 2 to sneak back over to your original location beneath the Jedi starfighter.
    STEALTH (1) + LUCK (1) = 2
    Success.
You gracefully sneak over to the hatchway beneath the starfighter and take position behind the landing gear. Arfour's dome is sticking out of the subterranean aperture. (+1 INTELLIGENCE)

With his dome swiveling around, Arfour eventually sees you. Beeping his delight, he manages to alert several stormies. They don't see you yet, but the group is headed in your general direction. You motion to the droid with a shushing gesture. Arfour complies.

Pondering your newest dilemma, you happen to notice that you somehow dropped your grappling hook while sneaking around. It sits there on the hangar bay floor, halfway between you and the southwest corner. (-1 DEXTERITY)

Another TIE fighter lands near the center of the hangar.

Due to the current situation, entering your usual meditative state proves difficult. The five stormtroopers that heard Arfour are approaching from the east. Though quieter since you warned him, the droid still beeps his delight at finding you. Strangely enough, you're hiding beneath the Jedi starfighter that contained Arfour when you first met him. You remember the moment you discovered him in the vessel's wing socket.

Struggling to achieve meditation, you feel an unfamiliar darkness seeping into your countenance. You detect a shift in your connection with the force. It seems that you cannot tap into the mystical energy field the way you once did.

You recently dropped your grappling hook. It sits upon the hangar bay floor, 15 feet to the southwest.

You never reclaimed your stormtrooper helmet from your one-time companion, Zan Sey.

    > tell R4 to enter the starfighter and boot it up, drawing attention to him. If he wants to start up the landing jets and shoot off a few blaster bolts in random directions, feel free.
    >Focus rage and the dark side to Force Push grappling hook to a very far away corner directing it inches away past the heads of the oncoming stormtroopers
    > Force sneak / speed & follow the trooper that is currently retrieving your lightsaber (do it ragefully, mind you)

Using his rocket boosters, Arfour secures himself within the starfighter's wing socket. The five stormtroopers trot over to the side of the vessel with intentions to question the droid.

Arfour bleeps his frustration, for he cannot activate the craft. His attempt to boot up the systems is to no avail. The landing jets remain dormant and no bolts shoot from the blaster turrets.

Then, you remember an important detail. Perhaps your memory has improved. When you last left the hangar bay, Kyle Katarn was in the Jedi starfighter, disguised as a stormie. It occurs to you that he still might be in the vessel. He had entered the craft with a decryption module. You surmise that his task could not have taken this long to achieve. The module was probably unable to override the imperial codes programmed into his fighter. Also, you'd rather not bump into him again. You didn't exactly leave on the best terms.

You channel the dark side and focus upon your rage. Motioning towards the grappling hook, you employ a force pull, and the tool rockets off to the far, northeastern corner of the hangar. Three of the five stormtroopers walk over to the spot where the grappling hook launched, in order to investigate. The speeding metallic tool just missed their heads. Two stormtroopers remain to question Arfour. Naturally, in the process of utilizing your rage, your force sight was boosted. (+1) You sense a familiar presence.

You've lost track of the trooper currently retrieving your lightsaber among the other thirty-five stormies. So, there's no need to deplete your force reserves by using sneak and speed both at once. You realize this fact 'ragefully', mind you.

'Ragefully' is not an actual word, but you may continue to use it, if you please. It does get the point across. :)

    > ragefully Force shroud yourself deeper into your hiding spot
    > Force sight/sense for mindtricked trooper, if you see him walk back towards you with your lightsaber in hand > Force pull saber to you
