Well, we did see Dash Rendar's Outrider (or at least, a ship identified at the time as it by the continuity specialist employees such as Leland Chee) in the ANH special edition.

I could see Shadows of the Empire's ideas in general as having a slightly higher than usual chance to "make the cut".

I always thought that Shadows of the Empire was deemed to be canon and not EU.

Xizor is imo made to be a spinoff villain.

I find battles over EU "canon" equal parts hilarious and...disturbing.

    Not surprising.

As much as I like Marvel, I feel that Dark Horse is now going to really suffer in the long run now, Star Wars was probably their biggest source of income.

Marvel comics will most likely spell the 'reboot' of the EU. 2015 will see prequal comics to episode 7 that will be all new stories.

Maybe somewhat more likely now, but direction will still be decided by the story group (whoever that all comprises). Really, a change in publisher doesn't likely affect their plans one way or the other. They'll be telling Marvel what they want, and what they can and can't do. If they tell them to 'stick within these paramaters' they could keep the EU, but if they say "ok, we need you to show Han and Leia having triplet girls" (or whateever) they're rebooting. It would be the same regardless of if it was DH or Marvel.

But guaranteed the first series from Marvel will focus on i) the classic trilogy and ii) leading into the Sequel trilogy. Nothing else inventive.

Marvel probably won't even have the rights to DH's characters, right? If true, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing...

Lucasfilm owns the rights to all Star Wars characters. Marvel can use whoever they want.

Now, whether they do want to use Dark Horse's characters is another matter. Or if the universe those characters lived in still exists.

    That^

I can only imagine the problems we would have if each writer or publisher retained the rights to the characters they created for Star Wars. *shudder*

A previous tweet of his involved buying lots of wine... so I'll forgive him for the 'no more forever' being bad English. Hope he means after their license expires Jan 3rd 2015 though... it'd suck having him not show up to work on Monday (though who can blaim anyone fleeing a sinking ship), I really want DH run to end on high notes (thus also forcing Marvel to step up their Star Wars game) not a horrible one like Marvel did back in 1986 with their final issue 'Jawas of Doom' or what ever it was called along those lines...[face_tee_hee]

Now teasing aside I really feel sorry for the guy, losing his entire devision after what must have been 12+ months of trying to entise Disney/LFL to renew their Star Wars License knowing Star Wars is the (was the) Crown Jewel and something like over a third of DH sales. Plus he did work behind the scenes on many great DH comics, so I'll have my own toast to Randy and his staff... wishing them great final run and days beyond, may this only be a speedbump for them.

From Randy Stradley's FB Page, on the License move to Marvel

    • Thank you, to all of you, for your kind words. To those who are still angry, two days later, about the news that Star Wars comics will be moving to Marvel in 2015, I would say please relax. Change is inevitable, and the fact that Dark Horse will have held the license for over two decades is kind of amazing.

But Dark Horse must lose the license, this is probably a good time for it. From my perspective, the upcoming films will mean less freedom to do what we at Dark Horse have always done best: expanding the universe. With a new film scheduled every year, and a new television series, it is likely that there will be a lot of comics pages devoted to adaptations and direct spin-off stories in support of the films and TV shows. That's not where my interests lie, and it has never been Dark Horse's strong suit. That would be too much like real work to me.

Probably, the coming years will be a great time to be a Star Wars fan (especially a *new* Star Wars fan), and I hope you all enjoy the ride, but I think I'm going to be glad to not be in the mix.

I am immensely proud of all of the work that has been done by our many, many creators over the years. I would urge you to channel your anger into thanks for them. Go find them -- most of them are on Facebook -- and tell them thank you. I guarantee all of them could benefit from a kind word right now.

I'm also thankful that I was able to work with so many great people at Lucasfilm over the years. We didn't always see eye-to-eye on everything, but their willingness to allow us to take chances with stories and characters and different segments of the Star Wars timeline resulted in some truly great stories.

And, finally, I want to thank all of the fans for the years of support. Even if we weren't always 100% successful, we always tried to give you more than you expected. It was your interest that fueled our creativity.

      Here's to the new year!

I know Dark Horse was part of the 90's SW revival. I read and owned the Dark Empire mini-series. It has some cool things but also some bad -- Palpatine clones and Luke falling to the Dark Side and wearing a very Vader-esque costume. But Marvel saw the potential of SW back in the 70's so SW is coming home. Even though I still think that big green rabbit character was one of the most ludicrous ever. :)

Like Star Trek there will be some sort of prequel comic to let fans know what is happening leading into EP7 .........

He and JarJar can team up against Deadpool in the inevitable one-shot non-cannon tie in mashup that will eventually get made... I would so love to see Deadpool crush both their necks, I find the idea most smoothing.

Though oddly the mashup I actually want isn't even Star Wars but instead Captain America and Indiana Jones (hey, they both fough Nazis... :p )
