He's fine, but I think they tried too hard, used too much slow close shot to show how good he looks, it's not what they did to Legolas or even Arwen in LotR.

Well, apparently he did have to learn to move inhumanly, so I eagerly await the result in TABA...

A lot of slow close-up shots to show us how ethereally beautiful he is before his mask fails? I wonder why they did that :p

going back to the topic of PJ redoing some scenes in LOTR or putting new scenes, he speaks about it in the commentary on the EE of AUJ (specifically in the beginning of riddles in the dark scene) , he says he probably would do it eventually in a big ultimate box set with all 6 films but also says if he did it he would also want the first versions to still be available and not being discarded because they're part of movie history, Philippa Boyens gives some suggestions to Pete like including Thranduil in the Last Alliance battle against Sauron in the FOTR prologue

At least PJ's got some perspective on it all, then. I was actually hedging my bets on Thranduil dying in the Battle of the Five Armies, but apparently he survives and, alongside the dwarves, helps rebuild Middle Earth after Sauron's defeat.

What're the odds that Tauriel isn't gonna make it? She's a fun character, but I get the impression they're gonna play up the Kili/Tauriel angle and have it all end tragically, because, well, the book gets a bit sad.

Oh, and before people get sick of me - the nods to the Lord of the Rings (visually and in terms of character) were nowhere near as blatant or "nudge nudge wink wink" as in the first movie.

The eagles, however, are a weird allusive/referential/continuity thing, because in LotR it's a shout-out to the books, but in the Hobbit it's a call forward to LotR, so the Eagles (in the movies, at least) are really just deus ex machina, or rather what the vast majority of people think deus ex machina is.

Yeah, Legolas happening to come across Gimli's childhood portrait was really cute and subtle.

At least that was over quickly, though. The bit where Gandalf just started breaking things with his staff was a much more fun nod.
