TDOS accomplished another thing that was also accomplished by AUJ; making me look forward to the next December.

If they think they have a fair shot at winning, then why not? It's not you they have to convince, it's the Academy members...

Yeah but there's a raft of really good pictures up for contention. Since the Academy has a bias for films of agreed quality winning best picture...

How is it you expect that they have a fair shot at beating 12 Years a Slave; Gravity; Philomena; Captain Phillips; Her, or The Wolf of Wall Street?

Do you think that Richard Armitage could beat out Chiwetel Eijofor, Joaquin Phoenix or Leo DiCaprio?

Maybe Evangeline Lilly could surprise us by taking the statue from Dame Judy Dench, Cate Blanchett or Sandra Bullock?

There's just no way.

Judy Dench is half-blind nowadays, so I think it's entirely possible Evangeline Lilly could get away with it.

 

Even still... You'll never know if you can win unless you at least try. If you've got a dream job, then no matter how slim the chances, you do submit your application, right? The same logic works here. If they don't make it, they don't. But there's no reason not to give the movie a fighting chance.
